1974 Honda CB 360

1974 CB 360. Looks to be in good shape and seems to be all original. 2800 miles, asking $2000 or best offer.
What would  be a fair price to pay for this bike?

wow them are some low miles. I'm a 350 fan so i wouldn't forkover alot of cash for a 360. $2000 is a bit steep, I'd say $1500 would be a fair price for somebody really interested in the bike.

Looks very nice but yes seems hi.   Remember the 74/5 had bad camchain tensioners so need to see if the recall was done.

Hmmm....  that might sound a BIT high, but maybe not for only 2800 miles.

Except for the corrosion / finish on the clutch case cover, it looks really beautiful.

+1 on the recall checks.  Look for the dimple / punchmark around the engine serial number.

Wow, that's a toughie.  IMO, that's not excessively high.  Really would depend on actual, in-person condition and your own desire for a CB360 (versus any other vintage bike) and LOCAL market.  For example, south- and central-FL prices seem definitely higher than, say, Minnesota prices.  Especially this time of year... :)

That's way too much for any 360, widely regarded as one of the worst models Honda ever made........don't mean to offend anyone who holds them near and dear.
Take a look over at HondaTwins.net, an inordinate number of our posts there concern 360 problems......Kirk can verify that.

Top ends are weak, and stocks of spare parts were depleted decades ago.

If I were in the market, $1250 would be about as high as I would go.

When I was looking for a 360 couple of them I called about were asking
$1000.00 not quite that low miles. Both were already gone.
I bought a 75 CL360 gave $750.00 for it original from the mirrors to the ground It did have a big dent left side of the tank decided to buy another tank found one no rust.

I called a honda shop before buying one they said about 50 percent of parts for it can still be bought.

My 67 CL77 forget about it for parts from honda lol.

it would sell for that much around here i think. basket cases are selling for 500.

Try finding cam chain tensioner parts, camshaft, or even the cam chain itself.

As it's become increasingly difficult to find the more "desirable" models like 350/450, etc., a lot of people are picking up 360's, which were previously ignored due to all their problems. This has become very pronounced in just the last year and 1/2 or so, the supply of barn finds and other sources for 350/450 types is becoming exhausted.
Personally, I wouldn't have one on a bet - maybe if it was free I'd consider it.

I bought my new 1974 CB 360 my senior year in HS. Several months later I let best friend talk me in to letting him borrow it. Several hours later he returned it to me with a tore up gas tank and bent handle bars. Well my former best friend did get it repair, but to me the bike was never the same. I sold it a short time later. Lesson learned. But the the short time I had it I thought it was a good bike and didn't give me any trouble.

Ahhhh, Bill's got a bee in his bonnet over 'em...   ;D

The only thing I see wrong with 'em is the unavailability of camchain tensioner parts.  No one makes repo's and they're NLA from Honda.  That's a struggle, but that's the only real problem with 'em.  If you get one that had the factory recall done (told by the punch mark in the engine serial number), then they're fine, unless the motor just plain has a lot of miles.  Then you'll be in a bit of a bind.  And, quite frankly, that's enough.

Camshaft unavailability?  Well, I GUESS so, but how many times does one need to replace the cam?  Not too often.

Cams run in the aluminum of the head?  Yeah, but so did / DOES every XL / XR Honda ever sold.  And a zillion motors from the OTHER manufacturers, too.  It just isn't THAT big of a real-world problem.  Change the oil frequently, and you'll be fine.

Otherwise, they're just the same as any other vintage Honda.  Same oiling, same transmission, same frame, same ignition, same charging, same brakes.  I don't mean the parts interchange, but the design is the same.

And 'the worst model Honda ever made' is STILL like saying 'the ugliest Playboy Playmate'....   ;D  ;D


On the other hand, back in ~1981, my older brother had a '72 350 and I had a '76 360T.  They both ran near enough the same, but his ALWAYS vibrated less.  Mine would put your hands and feet to sleep in 30 ~ 45 minutes, and his was SOO much smoother.  We never really DID figure out why.  I've had several 350s since then, and they, too, seem smoother than I 'remember' the 360 being.  However, I've never had another 360 to compare and refresh my memory, so.....

 That's pretty weird as most 350's had 360 crank but 360 has 180 crank

How many 360s do you have ?

 4'mostly complete' bikes,plus one frame with title, (and several spare cylinders/piston sets, couple of spare heads (quite a few parts that I know will fail eventually)
 It's actually a good motor, except when it's held at high rpm for extended periods.
When oil pressure gets high, the oil pressure relief valve opens, cam bearings fail. (its not instant but is cumulative)
Exactly same thing happens with CB350 but the plunger pump doesn't develop as much pressure so it takes longer and/or higher rpm (constant 11~12,000rpm when racing)

My 305 scrambler, the 350s, the early 450s all have the same type of frame. The later 450s, 360s the frame was changed, frame on the 360 has all the changes made to an early 450 frame road raced that won two national races in 1967 a daytona win 1968. You look at the frame on that road racer and what honda did to the 360 frame they just took what worked at the track put it into the later 450, 360 frames.

All CB/CL/SL 350's, were 180 degree twins - two sets of points.
XL 350 was a single....
Hondas with 360 degree engines only have one set of points.

My next door neighbor brought home a 73 CB 450 his father parked in his garage 25 ys ago he lives in a dry climate, there is not even a pit in any of the chrome motorcycle is in great condition he is having to rebuild the carbs the front fork dust covers need replaced.
Also from the same souce neighbor has a 77 KZ650 kawasaki same kind of condition.

I wouldn't worry too much about the top end parts.  You can find tensioners one ebay all day long.  I had 3 of them to buy and resell because I heard they were so rare and I couldn't even resell them for what I had in them which was the most recent list price from Honda ($40some).  I have 3 camshafts (including the 1 on my bike) from $20 boxes of parts I have purchased of ebay.  The cam chain, I believe can be cut down from another Honda model with a longer chain.  You would have to search the hondatwins forum for this information.  The heads themselves are somewhat hard to find but I've seen a dozen or so go on ebay in the past 3 months for $20 to $100.

I purchased mine with 5K miles on it in really good condition, non-running but had run for $700.  I think $1,500 max for an absolutely spotless 360 seems about as high as I would pay.

I had a '74 360 a few years back.
I did a fairly radical mod to the thing
--ran well--6 speeds too!
