2 CB550's for $500?
« on: February 05, 2010, 02:50:16 PM »
Found 2 Cb550's for $500. they both have titles,

one is a 76', the other a 77'

76' is "90%" there.
77' is "60%" there.

77' is a supersport.

Good deal?

$500 for both?  Hooo man I would have a hard time passing that up!  I am a sucker for projects, though.  ;D

It depends on how much more money you are willing to spend to get one of those road reliable.
If they are different models one K and one F, the current owner has likely determined they can't assemble one complete bike from the two.

If they are derelicts, expect to spend another $1000 to get one road reliable.  You will have a nice, fun bike after that.  But, you have to decide if these bikes are worth that to you.

If you expect to flip them for a profit, then you will need to part them out.

A lot depends on what is missing from each to make them 100%.

The seller says that they are different. 76' being the K, and the 77' being the F.

Will probably end up parting out one of them to get the other running.

I say that is a good deal. Part the F to get parts to complete the K.

Good Luck,
Steve

Awesome...I saw those today too. He came down to $500? That's better, $800 was a little much for those two bikes. Sweet though. Good luck and keep us posted!

I agree with TwoTired. Its a fine line. I had a chance to buy a complete all there 750, but it had been in a shed over 20 years and of course did not run and would of needed a complete taredown and rebuild and also had no title. In addition to the purchase price I knew the bike would take a large sum of more money and time just to get it road ready. So I walked away. Several months later I found a ready to ride 750 that needed very little. It sounds great to get a super deal on a bike and that's what all of us want, but just look out because sometimes what looks like a bargin can end up being a money pit.

I collected this 1976 550 K for free! That was the good news. Basically a good deal, only 6500 miles, but it had been sitting in an unheated garage for 25 years. I already had a 1976 550 F so I couldn't say no. Got it home and started doing a little work looking it over. No brakes: both master and caliper had to be rebuilt. Got a caliper off e bay and new parts for the master. Combined about $150 plus time. New battery: about $50 not much time. Carbs needed rebuilding about $50 plus a whole lot of time.
Needs tires and exhaust: combined about $400 and more time. A bunch of cleaning: a whole lot more time!! The carbs are about 3/4 done so I hope to fire it this coming weekend to see what else It will need. I already found a broken wire under the tank; it's the coil feed wire. Overall not too bad but certainly not free.
Overall though if you can get a bike on the road in good, not perfect, condition for $700 I think it would be worth it. Just remember that the Kelly Blue Book for a 550 is only around $400!
