Hello all, its been a while waiting to afford this book. Now I'm ready! reading through these posts raises some questions
- Is the book in first edition or second? extra photo dvd? I could be patient for the latest...
- any consensus on hard cover vs soft? spiral bound might be cool.
- Mark - when lulu puts on sale (coming up soon?), the cost is lower than yours? Crazy! I don't know lulu and I appreciate a good deal like everyone else, but want to make sure that the right people get their due. the "right" people are Mark and this forum! I am not concerned with a $10 (or whatever it is) difference. So, when and who to order from?

Lulu sends me the same amount for each book they sell, regardless of their sale prices (or not). So in a way, I come out better from them selling it. In the end, it doesn't matter to me which one sells it, if it gets another 750 back on the road: that's why I did it (and to organize all my old notes in one place!).

The paperback has been a little disappointing to me: some readers have said that once the backing is flattened, the pages can fall out. Since I heard that, I only offer the hardcover on my website. For the few $$ difference, it has the bible-style backing that won't do that, and lets it lay flat open from page one.

Either way, when a book gets sold, I route $1 from each one back to the forum, so we all get to play here! :)

all right then, I will presume the book is in first ed without the rumored dvd and not getting revised any time soon. I am off to the sohc shop to order a hardcover so it can hold up to my "coffee table"!

It's actually the 4th printing, 3rd revision, now. The original 3 versions kept 'sprouting' typos, and one color-swapped error on the bearing chart. The first edition had ragged carburetor drawings for some reason, so the first 88 books "got out" that way. That's why there is the download-able file on the first page of this post, with the cleared-up carb pix. The 3rd revision corrected an arrow on a swingarm pivot drawing, which was originally pointing to a wrong part, about 1/16" away from where it should have been. But, I think that's all the 'serious' errors it had?

Hey Hondaman,
Sorry to say I'm a bit confused between this site and the one linked to but here it is:
I would like to buy a hardcover edition of your book, your site says there are none in stock... also the dates dont have the year so is the 30% off for 2012?
At any rate, how can I get purchased today or tomorrow?

Thanks.... ???

To get that 'deal' you have to go to the publisher's website, not mine. Go to www.lulu.com, and enter that magic Coupon Code DELIRITAS before midnight tonight. You can find the book by searching for "My CB750 Book", it will pop right up.

For the bike, yes. For the carbs, no. I am working a set of the PD carbs for the next book, which is the "Performance" book for these SOHC4 engines. The PD carbs will take an entire chapter by themselves, because of their foibles and complications.

Oops! Sorry about the misleading-sounding message! Their sale is over for the moment, again. It will come again, about every month.

I hope for the next book to BE about half the cost, as it is about half as thick. They pretty much go by the pages when it is full color. Still have lots of pix to catch, drawings to do, stuff like that. It doesn't take so long to write as it does to gather. The first one's writings were over 35+ years, gathered together in 5 months, but the pix still took me almost 3 years.

Well could we help with pictures?

Maybe: when I did the first one, I had to go to local owner's houses (here in Denver area) during their builds to get some of them, because I was looking for certain engines. I have trouble describing what I am looking for, sometimes! A good example is the tranny gear pix in the book: I finally had to go buy 2 worn trannies to get the kind of shots I needed. They are still floating around my shed.

I have 78 Super Sport engine in my shop, plus forks, wheels and brakes.  I will be changing valve guides on the engine for Dynomens.  If there is a particular picture of any of those pieces, just ask.

Thanks!

One thing that would be helpful: if you can lay out the fork tubes (sans lowers) and a tape measure next to them and get a clear shot of it all. I often get asked the length of the '77-'78 tubes, and don't have a set. Also, the same for the springs, out of the tubes. I have lots of these for the pre-1976 bikes, but since I didn't have them for the later ones I then left them all out of the first book, to avoid confusion. Aftermarket vendors are selling the wrong lengths to folks, and I have now even inherited a set from someone who brought them here, discovered the error, bought new correct ones, and left the wrong ones here.

Just so you guys know, if you put both the 2013 Owner's Calendar and Hondaman's book in your cart and you enter coupon code JANCALENDARS13 you get 25% off the whole order, which is a pretty massive discount :) Just ordered both and the total with shipping was less than the book by itself normally. Retailmenot.com seems to have the Lulu discount codes on a pretty updated basis.

Just want to "plug" this book.

I don't have a K or F bike, but a Hondamatic.  I bought this book thinking that most of its content wouldn't apply to my bike.  While not everything applies, a tremendous amount does!

Highly recommend this book for everybody - INCLUDING us A bike owners.

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.

Hello,

I would just like to say that I ordered a book tonight from lulu's site.  The Hardcover version that retailed for $99.10 but used a 20% coupon code (FEBBOOKS13) and had it shipped snail mail for $4.99 for a grand total of $84.27.
