Got mine on Wednesday. By all means if you work on 750's it is a must in the shop. No question about it. Talk about understanding the details with great pics and directions. Marks keeps the discussion to an understanding level so even a novice should be able to follow it. Thanks again Mark for your time and effort. So many will benefit....

but what about us 550 guys?

You need more CCs...  ;D (Sorry, couldn't resist...)

It will be a 500/550/400F/350F book. I need a 350F in the worst way, have since they came out in 1974... In between, I'm gonna need to build/borrow-build/buy a 550 or 500 and maybe a 400, too. I like the junkyard-to-street approach for its visual impact in the book, like this one was. It sure was gratifying: I usually get one that's almost streetable and do some work to it. This one was a 100% rebuild. And 3340 pictures!

Well, now you're "hitting" me, putting it on the side of that beauty! Ever since the 750 came out, I've wanted the blue-green one (my leathers are that color, bought in anticipation of the bike I never could get!). One other SOHC4-er sent me a blue-green Dondirtbiker kit, so I might finally get m my dream 750 this summer, 38 years later!  :D

+1. Ive been "using" mine ever since it arrived - a few smudges here and there as I reassemble the steering head bearings and swingarm - the colour photos really help!

WHAT!?  :o
That one went out on the "book rate" postage: they said it would be slow, but this is nuts. I have to go to the Post Office this morning for other reasons: I'll ask them how long it should be taking to Ohio. I have your order right here from 2/13: I think the first batch of books (10) went to the Post Office on 2/19 AM. Yours was in that batch, but was the only one going by Book Rate. I do know that the next week I sent one 8 miles across Denver on Tuesday 2/23 via Book Rate, and it took 4 days to go the 8 miles.   :(

Keep in touch with me about this? I'll get back with you tonite. I also remember trying to decide if it should be to "Myhondas" or "Ray".  :) (I think I went with "Ray"...)

Ray:
I talked with 2 clerks at the Post Office and got 2 very different answers: the first was a guy who barely speaks English, the second was a lady who had been there for years.

The guy: "The computer says Book Rate only takes a week". Yeah, well, Priority Mail usually takes a week, but the computer says 2 days...

The lady: "To the Eastern U.S., book rate can take 3 to 4 weeks from here. I have seen even 6 weeks."
Holy cow.

I found that I can jam a paperback copy into their "flat rate envelope", but I'm a little concerned about possible damage, because it does not leave room to wrap some protective bubble wrap or such stuff around the pretty covers. I sent one this way to my brother, because he wouldn't mind the scratches (and I'm cheap...). He said it came without any damage, but I asked him for a picture of it so I could see if the corners got dinged or something.

So, if it is 3-4 weeks, that would mean it would be about Thursday next week (4 weeks) before it might arrive: let's keep in touch about it, and we can figure it out then. Tonite, I'll try to find the Post Office receipt that has your ZIP code on it (I'm at work now), so I'll dead sure about the day it went out. At the beginning of this, I was at the Post Office every day for about 10 days in a row, so I could be off a little on the ship date.

I'm sorry it's taking so long: I haven't used Book Rate since the 1980s.  :-\

I recently received a copy of "THE BOOK" and wanted to say thanks.  Well worth the money!  I have purchased every book I can find on the 750 over the past 15 or so years and even though I have only read around 30 or so pages of your book, and done my share of flipping around,  it is better than any other book I own that covers the subject.

The fact that if I had a question about something I read in your book, and potentially get an answer directly from the author?

Priceless!!!

Thanks!

Ray:
If you don't get it by Wednesday this week, please drop me an e-mail at mgparis@concentric.net. It should not be taking this long, according to most Post Office people I can find. It may be lost. I won't send another via Book Rate. I'll send you another one then. There was one clerk who said it could take 4 weeks: that would be Thursday this week since I mailed it.

I'm sorry about this big delay.  :-\

If it ever does show up, I'll cover the postage back to me: maybe we'll auction it off to the SOHC4 site or something.

I've heard that book rate can take freakin FOREVER! So don't give up.

It just blows me away though. I mean are they segregating the book rate parcels and just sitting on them for weeks on end? The slowest truck on the longest route would have to get there sooner than that.  It is totally rediculus, but its the USPS, not the sender.

I haven't heard that you got it, so I'm sending another one out today (NOT by Book Rate...). They will both be in padded yellow envelopes: this one will be First Class or Priority Mail (whichever turns out to be less). If you get the other one in the future, please send it back: I'll cover the postage. I wrote a big "2" on the back of the envelope so you'll know it's the second one when you get it.

I've recently had 2 Ignitions take over 6 weeks (via Priority Mail!) to get to the Georgia/Tennessee/Florida area.  >:(
