Is there a CB500 book available or in the works?
I started on it last winter and a local rider was supposed to bring me his CB500-4 for me to tear down and rebuild over this winter for the pictures. But he sold the bike instead, even though I was going to do it for free to get the pictures.(!) So, that book is now behind [my] schedule while I try to find another 500 or 550 to use for the work and pictures.

This sounds like a good reason for me to go out and buy a CB500 or 550!!

I Tried to order the book on Lulu, says the product is no longer found? Any help would be appreciated, trying to get my hands on this important piece of history! (And work on my bikes correctly)

On a side note, does something exist for other Honda fours? I have a 400-4 as well

Ya I tried to order on lulu as well and no luck .

Lulu decided to upgrade their whole system this past weekend (started on Friday) and now NO ONE can contact them or their website! I've been trying since Saturday when it all disappeared. I imagine they are not having a very good time over there about now, when the Spring order numbers are WAY up. Bad timing?

I'll post back here as soon as I can get a response from them. They have almost 500,000 authors publishing thru there, so they've got to be getting a load of mail!

I ordered mine from LULU on May 26. I was able to find a 15% off promo code online but it took several tries to find one that worked. Hardcover including shipped for $93.50 USD.

I was wondering about how long it takes them to get these printed and in transit these days?

Lulu seems to be back up and running for the most part. That was one nasty upgrade they suffered! They also changed their manuscript portal, so I'll have to dig thru that when I do this 500/550 book's version.

I’ve been thinking about purchasing the book just to have... but my question is it a worthwhile purchase for rebuilding an ‘80 DOHC custom or is there another resource that might be better? Thanks in advance

It wouldn't be much help for that bike. Honda had blended the CBX Six engine with the CB650 electrics to make that one.

Any issues with the A4 size I notice it's slightly cheaper not sure why? On account of the mountain of free advise I see HM give on pretty much every question I've searched I can't imagine this book not being the best tool in the shop.

Out of curiosity is it recommended to pair this book with a Climer manual or is it pretty much standalone everything you need for basic service/tuning etc.

At last look, the A4 (European) version still has the 12 original typos in it that were in the first 98 books made (First printing copies). I have not been able to recall that manuscript to 'fix' them because they changed it on their server and my editor could not re-open it after that. They are decimal point errors in several places, and the first 2 Crankshaft Bearings entries are swapped in the crankshaft bearing section: the Yellow and Green shells' dimensions are switched.

The main thing, though (IMHO) is the hardcover has a Bible-style sewn cloth backing so it lays flat open from Page One. The paperbacks are like all paperbacks, losing pages if the spine gets cracked by folding it flat open. More than 97% of the ones sold have been the hard cover version.
I have abovementioned european A4 version... Stupid I did not opt for hardcover, but too late
Hondaman, can pleade you list typos in European book for me to correct them?

Uh-oh...I just discovered it is gone(!). It must have been a casualty of the recent website move?
Please send me an e-mail at: SOHC4shop@gmail.com so I can send a copy to you from there. I'll have to figure out how to re-post it here. It was downloaded 98 times, which was how many of the books were originally sold with the errors (4 of them were A4 copies).

Plenty of good info that cant be found in anyother repair manual in your book Hondaman. Really happy to get My CB750 book delivered this week.

For sure it will help me to get back on the roar the two cb's sitting in my garage back on the road.

I intend to restore my 1973 (as the one my father got brand new from dealership in 1973) and a improved version based on a 1976 with a 836 cruzinimage kit in it.

Cheers
