23" of snow in the burgh
« on: February 07, 2010, 08:41:07 AM »
So I know that you all in Minnesota and the Central northern states are used to this kind of snow fall, but in Pittsburgh we get this maybe once every 15 years?  Last time we had snow like this was 1993. The roads are still snow covered and being the weekend will probably remain this way until this week. No hope for a quick warm-up which is probably a good thing due to flooding fears. My wife got stuck in our Jetta on the way to work at the hospital this morning. You would think that the city would have the access roads to the only children's hospital in the tri-state region cleared. But no. Alas, she was an hour late to work. Staff members from the hospital helped get her free. The staff that worked starting friday night were there 36 hours until this morning when most of the daylight staff made it.

My dad told me once that the reason for the big parking lots up in the northern states was so the plow trucks had a place to put the snow. Hope everyone else in the Atlantic states are doing well. We also had power out for about 20 hours until last night. House went down to 48F.

Don't let anybody fool you. Twenty three inches of snow will slow most places down. Sadly, you may want to prepare for more mid-week.  :-\

my boos is from the burgh his wife and kids have not had power for awhile. I think they turned the water off and drained it so no pipes break.
I hope everyone down there is taking care of themselfs.

thegab, I'm in Penn Hills. I take Allegheny River Blvd to work in Lawrenceville. There is a tree still crossing the road close to the intersection at Washington and Allegheny. We will see how things go tomorrow morning. Bob, yeah it looks like they are predicting 6 more inches for Tuesday into Wednesday. Great. More snow and already nowhere to put it.

Phil is a good pal of mine. Musician, woodworker, rider...he's on a Bimmer these days. He was in a band called "The Neats" back in the '80's. They played a New Years eve gig in Boston this year to celebrate the reissue of their early albums on CD. They ROCKED!

30 Miles North of NYC we did not get a flake. Some of my co workers in NJ got nothing or they were buried. This week I think our luck runs out. Man makes plans and God laughs.

We have a foot now and still falling.  Just finished shoveling, it's light and fluffy, no big deal.  I will have to shovel in the morning again but I would rather do it twice than all at once.  Most of the heavier snowfall seems to be to the south once again. :D

man i wish i had a snowmobile... i guess the four wheel drive will have to do for now.... did any body catch why we got way more snow than what they said last week.... i mean it wasnt even addressed... i would have like to hear something like there was an unexpected front off the appalachians that caused the storm to stall and the precipitation to accumulate... thats all they talk about during hurricane season and stuff like that

So, I heard you got some flurries?  ;D

Here in Vermont we could have used it, I can see some bare (not snow covered) areas.  :'(
All the minimum wage 'team players' at the ski areas are crying.

Just look at it this way, the snow will be gone soon enough. Hope you don't lose power/heat.
Stay warm,

I live in the city, and as such, there are X number of roads, and a fraction of X number of plows.  Didn't see anything until yesterday when this pulled up:

You know...I moved from Syracuse to get away from this stuff...

At least the storm they were calling for tonight isn't materializing.
