Shipping a frame...why is it this difficult?! Ideas anyone?!
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:09:15 AM »
So I sold a 75 CB750k frame to a fellow forum member in florida. Trying to ship it. I shipped an FZ750 frame to someone in utah a year ago and it was only 70 or 80 bucks through UPS ground and that was a bigger heavier frame...why does UPS want 180 dollars to ship this frame now?! I know their rates have gone up...but jesus!

Any ideas? I just have some packing material wrapped around the steering head, a couple frame sections and the whole thing shrink wrapped.

The Post Office says it's too big to ship, and FedEX wants 160 to ship it...

Who has shipped a frame recently...and how did you do it?!

Is the box bigger than box you shipped the FZ frame in. They get kind of uppity about dimensions. Could be a box of air but if it's too big - $$$.

That's the thing, it's not boxed. It just has some padding around the pointy/fragile parts and the rest of the frame is shrink wrapped...same thing I did with the frame last year...

Send it Greyhound.

Yeah, now I had forgotten that Greyhound IS a good way to send somethings of size and weight. I got a Super Hawk frame shipped last year, but I don't remember what the cost was (wasn't bad or I would remember it) and it was eother USPS or UPS, I don't remember that either. ??? ::) Funny how SOME seller (on ebay) WON'T ship a frame and yet some will and the cost varies. But Mark has a good point, try Greyhound. ;)

I hadn't even thought of Greyhound! The large Albany hub/station is 10 minutes from my house lol!

DHL used to be cheap, but I don't know if they ship domestic freight/odd sized stuff anymore. There is one across the street from my work gonna try them when i'm leaving first. If not then maybe greyhound.
