Whats your opinion?
« on: February 07, 2010, 04:50:59 PM »
When in stock condition I think The Honda SOHC 4's are the best looking bikes on the road, even though most were mfg. in the 70's. I think my 76 750 is a good looking bike the way it is, but as you can see its not all stock if it was it would really be a nice looking ride. I in no way take any credit for the look or the condition of this bike. If I knew the PO I would give him a pat on the back for keeping this classic in such good shape over the years. I've had this bike for about four months and I want to start putting it back to stock trim, but like with most of us money is tight and I surely can't do it all at once. Forum members whats your opinion of this bike, what should I concentrate on first, the factory seat, factory pipes or going back to the 18" rear wheel?

I always thought of them as the '57 Chevys of the bike world, timeless style.

If it were me I'd change the seat and handlebars first.  If the 4-1 exhaust is in good shape I'd probably keep it if mainly because of the cost of a decent set of stock pipes.

start with the the seat, i think that would be the most bang for your buck as far as getting it back to stock, then do the pipes........  just my opinion

Seat, then whatever trips your trigger. I'm personally not a hog rim hater, I rode a K3 with one for years. I've been planning to round off the back of one of those seats to give it an Italian cafe appearance and if I like it, cover it with an old leather jacket I have. The rise in the rear part is comforting under hard acceleration but I no longer appreciate the look on a stock bike. On a chopper, different story.

If you like that seat or any other, run it.. IMO the 73 and later K seats are one of the ugliest, unimaginative parts ever put on a bike.. Or get a 72 or earlier seat, at least they dont look like a vinyl brick...

Do you want a bike to please everyone else or YOU..  if you like what you got, leave it as is..

I have to say dump the seat pronto...then the bars. Besides those two issues you're lookin' good. But that's just me... ;)

I don't know exactly what the rise is on the K6 stock bars, but those look taller than what I'm used to seeing.  Could be wrong, though.

Yea I am pretty sure those are not stock bars, seem too tall. I say go with what you have the money for first. The pipe's are going to cost more then any thing else you have to do.. So just keep that in mind. Personally I would only change the seat.. only because its too dated for my tastes.

Great looking bike, super clean..

Just my 2 cents..

You will be surprised at how much nicer it will look with the OEM seat which is still available from Honda. I had a K/Q seat on my K4 and once I changed that it was amazing how much closer to stock it looked. So I am with the majority, change the seat first and do the rest later. By the way, it is a great looking bike there too.

What jumps out at me is obviously the seat, and the grips, which i understand might sound dumb to others. Beautiful bike, I'd just swap those and ride it.

Thanks for all the positive remarks about this bike. I've checked out alot of other pics of 750's and compared to what i've seen my bars are factory. By the best I could measure my bars have a 5 to 6 inch rise. My thoughts are right along with most of you, replace the seat first because it will have the biggest effect on the bikes looks. Honda/Service shows the stock seat for my K6 part#77200-341-701 for $218. I think the seat retails for $320. My birthday is next month maybe I can sweet talk the wife in to getting this for me. This forum is great, alot of good info from alot of good people!!!

Those bars look like mine and I believe mine to be stock (K6).  I got my seat from www.Hondanuts.com:
77200-341-701     Seat     $265.00     K2-'76
It comes with hinges, latch, strap.  It was a gratifying upgrade.

I have a new set of HM341's and it'll be nice to get those on as well.

I have new LPM side covers (old ones were trash).  I just bought some duplicolor (mentioned in another thread) that I believe to be a very good match.  I also bought their adhesion promoter, primer and clear.  If I were to paint the tank, I'd be more concerned about getting a 2 part clear so gasoline wouldn't wreck it.

My brother and I will be doing one of the other earlier colors on a K4... ahhh the choices... it will be difficult to decide because these bikes came in such cool colors.

Suzuki GN400 - Ignition fixed!
03 KLR650 - Doesn't do anything very well but.. well.. does everything.
