Anyone know when the oil filter housing changed from "smooth" to the "finned" style?

According to the SOOC forum the first finned oil filter was 4149 so the finned one should be correct on this bike.

I don't care what anyone says, I like my sandcast.

Thanks for that answer. I wasn't sure if it was correct. The way the term sandcast is being thrown about these past few years, it makes some of us suspicious. I did notice that bike has what appears to be the correct cut front fender, among other things too. A nice motorcycle for sure. The thing that disappoints me personally tho, is that all the hype drives the whole 750 market. It's getting harder and harder to find reasonable priced bikes or parts, sandcast or otherwise. It takes the hobby away from the enthusiast/owner
and turns it in the direction of a Barrett Jackson dream. I just think it's a double edged sword and hope our beloved 750 never gets to the point of becoming an overpriced status symbol. Don't mean to step on any toes, JMO

I have never figured out the attraction of a bike that they made over 7400 of being a collectors piece. 5 Corvette Grand Sports or 7 Cobra Daytona coupes...now that's rare and collectible!

Its not a collectors item because of how many were or were not made. I have friends with Vettes that were massed produced yet "collect" them. The fact is this bike started some thing, it ushered in the start of the superbikes.  They were pretty reliable. My dad had one and put some thing like 30k on it with very little maintenance. Personally, if I had the money or could get it I would buy this in a heart beat restored or not. As it is I have to be happy with the pictures... sigh.

Yea I guess that was my point, the number of some thing produced has nothing to do with weather or not it becomes a collectors item. Plus, 7k of those, how many do you think are left.. Not many I bet.

The pice on these is driven by demand, more than rarity..


 There are many bikes that could be made in smaller numbers, ie a CZ, but if no one is buying them, the price will stay low..

I agree, but I think they're plenty rare.  Besides the one I own the only other sandcast I've seen in person was in the early '70's.  I would guess there's less than 1000 left out of 7414 and half of them aren't in this country.

I agree with the 'buyer's make the market' approach to value. I rode my original sandcast until the chain let go in June of '70. From then on it was a dye-cast. If you wanted to buy or restore an early 750/4 the SOOC is the best source of verification now available. I can tell you what I remember about my bike, as others can tell you about their specific bikes. But when did the horn move or when did the rolled vs standerd rim edges change is now verified by collective sources of verified data. Any 750/4 is regarded as a collectable bike. Why are the K-1 & 2 getting higher prices than later years? Then the later K0 models are higher and the sandcasts at the top.  Buyers make the market.  Thank goodness for buyers!

I hear what you guys are saying about being collectable, but I still think that rare means very few left. How many Camaro or Corvette pace cars do you want... they are all over round here, and with Vic World making up to 25-30 remade KO's for a price. I still think we are a long way from rare.


Collectable..is another thing.


IMHO.... a stock, unmolested, slightly used CB750KO is more collectable and rare... than a World M/C's new one. But, the market driven world we live in does not produce this result.

Naw, I gave up on those a long time ago.  But your question illustrates my point. Sour grapes, maybe, but it does kinda suck.
I am not against anyone makin a few dollars. Quite the opposite.
It's the market side effect that spoils it for me. And for the record, I LOVE the sandcast bikes. I even had a line on a K0 a few years back, before the guy baled on me. I envy you amongst us that have them. If I were to own one, tho, it'd be because I love the style of those particular bikes. Guess what I'm tryin to say is I aint in it for the money. And it's gettin more expensive all the time....PEACE
