Just got a response from him.  He says he has three different spring rates:  80/100, 90/110, and 100/130.  In the auction I'm pretty sure it stated he had two rates to choose frome, so I asked for the lighter option, but he sent me the 90/110?  I offered to buy a set of the 80/100 from him, so we'll see what happens.  I'm willing to accept most of the responsibility on this since I didn't ask for specific spring rates beforehand.

And yes, it was late by the time I got the 550 out on the road, riding in the dark, one-handed, not looking at the road, while taking pictures with the other hand.  Where's the fun in knowing better? ;D ;)

I only saw that Tim had the 90/110 and 100/130 springs too, but I'm guessing the 80/100 are for the XR75/80 shocks he was selling, I doubt if too many guys of "average" build on a 500-up would want any lighter than the 90/110's, I'm guessing that I weigh twice as much as Gordy, so I'm at the other end of the extreme, so the 100/130 springs on my F2 are great for my 240+ pounds. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

...but he didn't explain why he gave you the mediums?...he seemed pretty knowledgeable - what problems are you having exactly, with what you got?

Nope, didn't explian why I got the medium springs, but he's being very helpful so far.  The problem with the springs I got is they are too stiff.  Even on the lowest pre-load setting they hardly compress at all when sitting on the bike, and I have to tippy-toe just to move it around.  If these are the 90/110, I'm thinking the 80/100 would be best.
Last email I got he asked for a picture of the shocks so he could tell for sure which ones he sent me, so I sent one.  I told him I'm happy to buy another set of springs from him, just want to make sure I get the right ones.

The shocks I have are definitely stiffer than the ones in the eBay listing picture, so I know I don't have the lightest ones.

You can find out what you have with a bathroom scale and a block of wood to spread the load.  What poundage does it take to compress them?

Cheers,

I'm going out to the garage to try that right now!  Yes, my bathroom scale is in the garage... don't ask why. :-\

Nevermind, spoke too soon.

I got as far as the back door, but the fact that I'd have to remove the shock from the bike as well as shovel the snow off the walkway was just too much for me today. ::)

Only on my days off, and weather permitting.  It's cold and snowing today, so I'm in the house doing laundry, messing around on the computer, and playing video games.  Oh, and drinking beer. ;D

I've been off work since the 11th, but spent most of that time in Dallas visiting family.  I took yesterday and today off because I wanted to get the bike running, and also because I needed a couple of days to myself before going back to work. :'(

Just hit the buy it now button for my set!! So I'm 175lbs on an 750F2 with an FZR 18" rear with the FZR forks brakes and wheel up front, so which spring rate do you think I should be running??

The 90/110 would probably work fine for that application, but let's see what everybody else thinks.

I recieved my shocks yesterday, about a week after purchasing them.  Like others have said, the box had the crap beat out of it but the shocks were fine.  They look great and really clean up the rear of my 750 F2.  And the price can't be beat.

I have to say, Tim is probably the most easy-going seller I've ever dealt with on ebay.  After we finally figured out which springs were on the shocks he sent me, and which ones I actually needed, he sent the replacement springs at no charge.  I even offered to buy the springs and pay for shipping, but he just said to send him the other springs if I decide I definitely don't want them.

I haven't changed the springs yet since I'm still trying to figure out the front wheel sticking situation, but I highly recommend buying from this guy.  He will do whatever it takes to make sure you're happy with your purchase.  I'll update later after I've changed them out.

I'll second that Gordy, Tim is a CB750 guy himself, he emailed me today to say he's fitting a new engine in his K2, and would it be a good idea if he joined these forums? I said that I'm sure we'll all make him feel welcome here, particularly after helping us all out with those wonderful (and cheap) Shocks.

For the CB750F/1/2/3 owners, Tim can also supply new seat trims, you know, those stainless steel strips that go either side of the seat, with a colored panel in the middle? He has them in several colors, and they look cool, so if yours is looking pretty beat like mine are, a nice new set from Tim might be just what you need? I'll get price details from Tim, and see if he'll offer a "club discount" now that he's pretty much a member? Once I get the info I'll start a seperate post, with pics. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well #$%*, I ponied up and jumped on the ol' bandwagon. I've been wanting some new shocks. Now, are these better than a set of rebuilt Koni's?

They're both great shocks mate, if your Koni's have been rebuilt properly, they should be very similar indeed. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I bought a set, mainly because of this discussion.  My e-check to Tim cleared January 24th, and I was happy to get them today.

It looks like it'll be a bit of a trick getting them to fit (beside my 400F chaingaurd) but I knew it would be .....

Also happily, today is another freakishly warm day here in Toronto - land, so if I can get them installed I be able to actually check them out right away.

You had me worried though, with this latest discussion.  I was going to phone Tim, but my faith is re-affirmed.  It's a little thing, but it says something I think; he charged my $19.50 for shipping, and when I look at the box they came in, the paid postage is $23.50.  That is the opposite of most everything else I buy through ebay..... and it indicates to me that this guy is a good person, and he's interested in delivering the goods.

I don't think anyone should worry (it's easy for me to say, now......).

Tim must have read my post the other day and emailed me the mail tracker number. According to this the shocks have been sitting in some #$%* kickers locker for nearly 2 weeks at USPS. They only just left the states the other day. Cheers Tim for your help.

I just put a set on my 350f the other day, and yep, it interferes with the chain guard. My guard was kind of crappy anyway, I cut out a bit up the side behind the shock. Didn't look like there was any way to just pound it inwards and miss the chain. Looks fine, you can't see it behind the shock but I suppose it will be messier with chain lube. I'm anxious to get out and give them a try. We had March winter in January, now winter's back. :o
