I have hard bags, (yes I left my self wide open for smart remarks) plus I would install the shields from my shocks, 74.  I only weigh 125lbs, but some of the computers I carry on the rack can go up to 200lbs.  That and we have some of the worst roads on the east coast.

James

Damn, I'm starting to feel like Gulliver in Lilliput, geez, I've had #$%*s that weigh more than you James! Ha ha, just kidding, I wish I was only 125 pounds, and so does my wife! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry,

I wish I could get up to 150, I'm 5'9" and just about get sucked off my bike when going over 75mph.  Makes it a little hard to pass if I can't let the old girls hair down. ;D

I'm going to have to get you to send me some of the good Auzzie beer to help me pump up. ;D

Hey James, it must handle like sh*t with a 200lb computer on the back (the box is pretty big too).

I have resisted the tempation to put a rear rack on my bike and carry everything I have to in a backpack.  In my youth (avatar) I used to tour the country and tried to keep the weight forward and as low as possible. Heavy loads up high and back tended to make the bike weave.

Lucky those pizza delivery boys don't have much in those wacking great boxes eh?

Steve

she did handle like sh*t with that much on the rack, and I didn't have to take it too far, about 4 klics.  Some of the older computers we get from CFS (Computers for Schools) have steal cases, thats what makes them so heavy.

I wouldn't want to have to bungee cord pizzas to my bike, I would crush them, I always over tie them.

Now someone was saying that these Boge shockers are an inch shorter than stock, but that can't be right, because on the centre stand the tire sits approx 1 inch above the concrete, which is just about where I'd expect it to be?

Terry, did you measure the eye-to-eye length on the Boge shocks?  I know it says 12.6" on Ebay, but I am curious about what you actually got with the assembled shock.  Thanks - Greg

My Boge's came in today and you folks were right. Appears to be very nice quality and pre-assembled according to my bike and weight. I bought them based on the comments from you more experienced riders/re-builders. Shipping was fast. Purchased them on the 14th and had them here in Iowa this AM. Will put them on tonight and try to get a ride in tonight if not to cold out...lol. Thanks for the heads-up on finding such a nice item. Dr. Mark

G'Day Teach, I think Tim's standard shipping rate is $10.00, but if you're not sure, just email him via the Ebay message system. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I'm event thinking of going with some kind of closed-cell foam instead of the typical stuff - firmer and thinner...

not trying to hijack the thread, but i run a low profile (shaved down and reupholstered) seat on my cb350t. it's still long, though. i love the look af these bikes before the big seat goes on, and plan to try and keep that short/squat look on the 550.

I have used this Sargent "Super Cell Atomic Foam" before with great results - http://www.mypages.co.nz/~andyf/Honda2.htm#Crankcase%20paint

It can be thin but still comfortable.

Can someone else who's purchased these shocks help me out?  I've already emailed Tim about this, but haven't gotten a response yet.

What spring rate did you get, and what other rates were available?  I asked for the lighter spring rate since I'm using these on the 550, but they seem too stiff, even on the lowest pre-load setting.  He sent my shocks with the 90/110 springs, does anybody know if that's the lighter option?  If so, I may just end up using these on the 750 instead.  Either that or gain about 50 pounds!

well, i don't know about you, but i've been trying to put on even 20 pounds for years and haven't had any luck yet,  ;D

i got the same setup as you - probably because we gave him similar info about our body weight etc... i wonder if he has a heavier spring at all? we'll have to let the others weigh in (ha) i guess...of course, i'm running mine on a 750, but haven't had a chance at trying them out as the rear wheel seems to still be off, the new tank (thanks cheapo) is in transit, the grips and controls aren't on and there's still no seat! minor details...

nice work on the marathon rebuild yesterday - i forgot where you were (CO) - it was dark here, about 7:45 and I was wondering if you made it...looks pretty dark in that shot of the clocks, don't you know better than to ride around in the dark, not looking at the road, with only one hand, snapping pix of your pretty bike???  :D

Just got a response from him.  He says he has three different spring rates:  80/100, 90/110, and 100/130.  In the auction I'm pretty sure it stated he had two rates to choose frome, so I asked for the lighter option, but he sent me the 90/110?  I offered to buy a set of the 80/100 from him, so we'll see what happens.  I'm willing to accept most of the responsibility on this since I didn't ask for specific spring rates beforehand.

And yes, it was late by the time I got the 550 out on the road, riding in the dark, one-handed, not looking at the road, while taking pictures with the other hand.  Where's the fun in knowing better? ;D ;)
