Hello to all.
« on: February 08, 2010, 05:33:31 PM »
Hi folks, my name is Scott, and I am an addict. It started innocently enough with a 3.5 HP mini-bike, and progressed through a haze of Hondas and Kawasakis to the heavy stuff; A BSA 650, BSA 441 Victor Special, and then, the lowest point of all... A Yamaha 750 ohc twin, something like a TX... I shudder at the semi-repressed memory. It was rated as one of the ten worst bikes ever built by a magazine a few years later. My total downfall came when I discovered an odd looking bike for sale along the road to work. The seller told me it was a "Seeley Honda". I had no idea what that meant, but it didn't matter: I was hooked.

So just how is it that your cafe doesn't perform as well as it did stock? Mine accelerates better, brakes better, is MUCH lighter (I put it on a severe diet a few years ago), and, at least at certain speeds, is more comfortable.  :)

Loosen up Scotty, he isn't having a go at anyone in particular, a lot of Cafe bikes have lowered rear shocks and 16 inch rear wheels and i can guarantee you that these mods WILL NOT IMPROVE handling at all. We have some awesome examples of how to do it right on this forum just look up squirleys 550 cafe build for example.... Have a look at it here..

Hey Mick, I agree about this being such a GREAT resource, and I'm happy to be able to contribute. I certainly didn't mean to come across as being nasty, it just seemed to me that somehow "cafe" has become the equivalent of "low rider chopper".

Yeah i know what you mean mate, some of the cafe's i have seen seem to detract from the original form of the early cafe bikes, there are some beauties on here though and i suppose it all boils down to personal taste, not all of them are ridden hard, some are just for looks..

Well i am in Australia but a bitsa or bitza here is usually something thrown together from a few different bikes...as in,   bits of...  like a mongrel dog.
I didn't see the word used here, why did you ask?

Ok, I get it, like "bits of different bikes". I translate English (and I guess, Australian) "bits" as "parts". Your tag line mentions a "bitsa", hence the question...

Don't worry Scotty, on here you will be reading every kind of English there is. Somehow we understand each other.  ;D

Thanks for the reassurance, BobbyR! I think it's great here, so no need to worry. Besides, I learned a new word! I could only guess that Bitsa was some obscure bike, maybe Italian, (rhymes with pizza???), or maybe slang for BSA, like Beezer???  :D

Hey Mick, I think it's a cool term! And, I think my Seeley qualifies as an international Bitsa, what with the mix of Japanese, British (note I didn't use English this time  ;)), Italian, and American bits.

Hey, Mick, go back and read my original post; I admitted that the Seeley was my two-wheeled drug of choice. Also, I posted pics on the member's pics thread...
BTW, if you, or anyone else can identify the exhaust, let me know!

Sorry mate but i have no idea what brand of pipe you have. In Australia there were heaps of pipe makers in the 70's and 80's and we rarely got American stuff out here then....

Thanks, Mick. Actually, I don't even know if it's American, and have never seen one quite like it. I can say it is made of very thin wall tubing....
