tranny problems.

Ok, so i've read all the posts about people slipping out of a specific gear and the advice is always the same: worn dogs.  I'm in the middle of mostly restoring my 750K3.  One of my main goals with this restore was to fix the transmission so i no longer slip out of 4th when i'm running through the gears pretty hard (sometimes slips out if i get up to 4500 rpms or higher in 4th).  I split the crankcase open last night and started looking at the transmission, but i didn't find anything that jumped out at me and said "fix me, i'm the little punk causing all the problems!"  So, i did what all good mechanics must do in the sitatuation (in no way applying i'm a good mechanic) -- i went and poured myself a cold glass of beer and stood around looking at all the parts going "huh...."

So, here's a couple of pics of the only real damage i can find that's related to 4th gear.  Is this enough to make it slip out?

Greets,
From your pictures, I would say that the shifting dogs on the gear are worn and could cause problems. It would be prudent to also check the engagement holes on the mating gear for wear as well. Ideally, the shifting dogs and mating holes should have clean, well defined edges. You might also want to check the shifting forks for excessive wear on the fork ends. Also, check to be certain that none of the shifter forks are bent and that the shifter drum and slots are not worn. Careful examination of the  tranny parts at this time would be to your advantage. Happy wrenching...

I agree with checking the forks and drum. Send that tranny out to Fast by Gast and have it undercut. It is well worth the money!

most of the  750's kick out of second.
Just go ahead and replace shift forks. replace shims

If any gears withs dogs have a bit of wear change them. Gears will seldom show wear except for breakage as in drag racing.
