gearing and tire size ?
« on: January 10, 2006, 09:22:22 PM »
Hey All,
Looking to put the 77 550F rear tire and rim on and noticed it has a 37 tooth sprocket. My 72 500 and spare rim have a 34 tooth sprocket. I rode by the dealer today and they looked it up and said that was stock for both. He said they put the 37 on the F's so they would be a little quicker. I have an old 4.60H on the rear of my 72 500 my 78 550 has a 120/90/18 and 34 sprocket. It seams to be good. I have a 110/90/18 new spare now. I can put it on or go with a 120/90/18 and the 37 tooth sprocket? :)  man what to do? what to do? :)
 Thank's for the input.

According to the Honda shop manual, the 34/37 sprocket change coincided with the 500 to 550 model change (Ks and Fs).

The final drive of the transmission also changed from 2.000 to 2.176 between 500 and 550 also.
