alternative to honda axle wrench?
« on: February 11, 2010, 07:10:09 PM »
Has anyone found an aftermarket axle wrench that will fit the SOHCs?  I've got a 71 CB500 and I can't find the wrench online, looks like they've discontinued it (PN 89202-283-000).  There's a separate PN for 73 and later models, (99006-26000) but that's discontinued too. I don't see anything quite like it from Motion Pro either.
I want to be able to adjust the chain on the road without having to carry a big heavy adjustable wrench.  Looks like it should be a 26mm?
Thanks!

When I started in bikes, there was nothing,  like not available..
.
We just scratched out the shape in a piece of metal, and cut & drilled & grinded, and cut ourselves ...BUT We LIKED it  :o

Then it maybe didnt fit perfect, so we cut and filed some more till we got it RIGHT... and y'know, after a while we got better, and better at it..

Back in them days, you couldnt ask online... you sent a Paper thing , called a Letter to a magazine.. usually in California... and PRESTO.. 3 MONTHS LATER.. you got an answer...!!

 EASY ..Huh ??

Yup, I hadn't considered making one but that may be the way to go!
I often wonder what would happen if I didnt have this forum to refer to.  I am pretty sure my bike would be abandoned in the back of our shed, because I didn't have the knowhow to keep it going!
There's no way I would be able to work on it myself without all info and pics here.
Thanks!

Why not just hit up eBay?  I just searched on "CB500 tool" there and came up with a couple of matches.  Here's a complete (?) OEM tool set with no bids currently at $19.99:

here's an imcomplete set but it looks to include the axle wrench, only $9.99:
