Figured I would start an Olympic thread since it's in my neck of the woods.

Looks like bigger, faster, longer, has us humans going beyond survivability now.
Georgian Luger died today during trial run :-[

video shows a lot of unprotected posts ::) If you crash you will die. Nice sport?

I find myself attracted to Mrs. Vonn, even if she doesn't ski.

Only 21, and trying to be the best.  its a risky sport, but was something missed by the safety comittee?

Its a sad day for his family/country.

Truly a horriffic crash! It is a dangerous sport (sound familiar?) but I agree there may have benn something that could have been done with those support pillars. Although I am far from a Luge expert....not sure if that is outside of the norm for tracks.

Watching the opening ceremonies now and am super pissed!! They butchered my Anthem!!! To turn it into a bad version of a Celine Dion song was a slap in the face!!!

I can deal with the stereotypes and heavy aboriginal content that is to follow up but to screw with O'Canada is inexcusable!

Dennis

Edit - Oh and for any one who watched it....we don't actually wear dead animals, chant and live in igloos! lol...it may be part of our heritage but it is only ONE small part.

Total agree with you on the anthem, Was she Russian? never heard of her.....nice voice, bad arrangement.

Why the hell was everything said in French 1st at the begining?   I thought Montreal already had their Olympics.
I get we are bilingual, but are we truly more french than English speaking?

Sarah was good.  ;D

Sarah was good!!

I think we are at the point where more people speak Mandarin then French for god's sake!!

That Nikki chick is actually quite talented. She is doing the CTV theme song "I believe". But in my opinion they blew it big time!! You can "F" with alot of things but you don;'t change your own Country's anthem!!

So far the rest is about what I had expected although I am curious still to see who lights the flame.

Also, I thought they would do more about the Luger from Georgia especially at the beginning. Maybe dedicate the opening to his honour. I was pleased to see the "standing O" when Georgia walked in...nice to see you folks on the coast have some class too  ;)

They said that they do both french and english since they are the official languages of the olympics. Also noted that they are the official languages of Canada.

Really     you guys don't dance around in animal skins..........wait I thought all you guys did was sit around and drink brewskis and say.......eh? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah but that would have made for a VERY boring opening ceremony!! Can you picture 2 guys on a set designed to look like a garage sitting on a bench seat from an old van watching TV and drinking beer....for 2.5 hours?

May be more accurate but hard to sell TV spots with a ceremony like that!

Everything that's been said so far fits Seaweb to a T, especially the igloo, bench seat and brewskis!  ;D

it isnt often that i get so royally pissed off, PISSED OFF, that i feel compelled to send an email to a television network at 2AM but that is exactly what i just did. NBC, in very poor taste and even worse judgment just showed the Olympian from Georgia crash and hit the pole that took his life. i have got to wonder who was thinking what when they thought it was ok to show that graphic event for the world to see. i'm not just talking about viewers that it might upset (like me) but what about showing some respect for this mans family? i know that i wouldnt want my death broadcast to millions. Eyarrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Rant over.

What's the deal with it raining up at Whistler?

Usually at this time of year you wake up to a foot or two of fresh snow everyday.

uhm...not sure about these but for starters I would suggest ctv.ca or tsn.ca

Not sure exactly what they are showing. Another option is google vancouver2010 and see what pops up....I know Bell Canada is the provider of all things digital for the games. Try searching the bell.ca site too...
