aw #$%*, theyre predicting "significant" snow here this afternon
« on: February 12, 2010, 09:46:28 AM »
time to watch all the idiots lose their minds like it's the apocolypse coming. i bet all the bottled water and toilet paper are gne from the stores already damnit. i guess growing up in connecticut and vermont make me just laugh at an inch or so of accumulation. guess i ought to get a case of budweiser and gas for the generator just in case the pine tree out back takes out powerlines to the house again.

We were supposed to get some more last night and it DID startup around 6:30PM or so, but it was pretty light and didn't last long. So, like Tipper, we're watching it melt away. Got some more scheduled next week though. Have to see how THAT works out (or doesn't)! ::)

Oh well, I repeat, COME ON SPRING!!!!!!!!!

I am amused at the people whom think they can drive a car in the snow with summer
tires . Honestly, I do Not feel sorry for them.  ???

It's been nice and sunny here on the Tundra the last several days. Sorry to get a laugh out of the misfortune of others but it is funny watching folks not used to dealing with this react.  There was a funny article in the local paper about folks in DC shoveling out their cars and then putting lawn chairs out in the street to "save their parking spots" on public streets and how it was hard to plow the streets because of all the furniture. ;D  You develop survival mechanisms to get through realizing everyone is in it together against the common enemy.  You shovel out your elderly neighbor without being asked or accepting payment, help out the stranger who's car is stuck out on the street, don't complain or feel sorry for yourself because the next guy is just as cold. If someone needs a jump start you put on your coat and get to it.   My neighbor has a nice snow blower and he takes it around the whole block doing the sidewalk.  No one has ever asked him to and no one offers payment, he would not accept it.  Just the other day I ran a 150 foot extension cord and my battery charger out to a stranger's car that the lights had been left on making it too dead to jump.  It's just what you do to help everyone cope.

I spent half the day yesterday weeding in the vegetable garden.
It appears the tomato plants didn't die off from frost and are sprouting new growth.  I know these are hybrids and the seeds won't be like the parent plants.  But, if they over winter, will they still make the big juicy tomatoes they gave me three months ago?

I also found carrots I missed pulling up.  They are really big.

I did make a weed pile roughly shaped like a green snowman.  It seems to have wilted today, sort of like it is melting.

I was thinking about doing some early planting.  But, they say it might get down into the fourties over the week end with a cold front moving in.  It will probably make my fingers too cold during planting.

It's warm and dry here in Maine for the dead of Winter anyway.

I was able to ride in to work today as my neighbors from the South seem to be hogging all the snow.

ah heck, my youngest can drive in snow with slick hp summer tires. Needless to say,
I had to pull him up the hill to the house. ;) I had a used set of snow tires sitting there
already off the wheels, he took his spare wheels and put them on. Kids, putting things off
to the last minute.

Yea Jeff, I hear it snowed in Pensacola and Atlanta is calling for about 5". I bet the
streets would be fun to watch. Grab your porch swing, a cold one and sit back and watch the fun.

it's W  H  I  T  E ! my front yard is white, the cover over the lawn tractor is all white, the street is all white with a few black lines where cars have gone past. this is the first time in 10 years we've had snow that accumulated so in a few more hours when it's really started to accumulate, i'm going out for a drive. i got my first driving lesson in a snow storm because my folks wanted me to learn proper winter driving skills. the Saturn has good all weather tires and i have may seasons of winter driving under my belt. i love watching the people that have never seen a real snow drive, and sometimes unintentionally go off road  ;D i LOVE driving in the snow!

snowed 2" in the past hour. me Mr smartass here said "it wont accumulate on the roads, it's too warm. so I went downtown (16 mile round trip or so to go to the discount liquor store) about halfway there it started sticking on the lesser traveled roads. by the time i came out of the liquor store the car had 1" of snow on it. it took me 40 minutes to go 8 miles but at least i have blackberry brandy, beer and everclear.

ok, scratch the idea of snowboobs. it's too much like work moving snow with a shovel. and it's COLD!

It's not significant until it's measured in feet.  Man up, down there.

I read in the paper today that there is snow on the ground in 49 of the 50 states.  The article listed Hawaii as being the exception.  I am positive the paper is wrong and it is easy to think this about Hawaii.  Mauna Kea is on the island of Hawaii and about 14,000 feet above sea level and usually has a snow cap.  So I think it's safe to say we have snow in all 50 states.  Another nice sunny day here on the tundra. :D

Fun fact for trivia buffs.  Mauna Kea is actually the tallest mountain in the world measured from base to the top.
