Stuck center stand pivot pipe
« on: February 14, 2010, 08:19:00 PM »
Wow. My center stand pivot pipe was STUCK! After cracking that thing with a hammer and socket for about an hour. I let the ol PB Blaster work its magic (for about 5 days), but it's spells were rendered useless. So I took a drill ( a big mfing drill bit) and drilled out the center of the flange side and hogged it out until the pipe's walls were thin enough to take a chisel and screwdriver to fold the material inwards. That made it possible to clear the bolt mounting bracket and then the other side just pulled out. Holy hell!

I cut the first one with a sawzall, then used a 1/2" all thread through it to hold it in place. I had the same struggle with the next one but the frame was naked and I wanted it original so I flipped it over and heated it with a torch. I inserted an allen head bolt that would fit through the bracket and drove the pivot tube out. Then de-rusted and greased.
