[1976 K] Wiring harness differences?
« on: February 15, 2010, 06:47:08 am »
I have a '76 K and I want a new wiring harness, the previous owner thought it was a good idea to screw everything up.

I'm perusing through eBay and I see this harness but it says it's for bikes up to 1975.

Can I make this work for my 76?  I don't see any other new harnesses for my year and I'm not familiar enough with my bike and the various model changes to make up a sound enough decision on my own.

Also, I looked through the FAQ section for am enthusiast supplier (I hate eBay) but couldn't find one - however I did find a great deal of other vendors that I've bookmarked :).

Thanks!

basicly 76-78 are the same... 75 -73 (72) was different... mostly had to do with the frame and what electrics came on the bike...

if you can wait... i'll pm you the details...

What are the main differences?  I can't find anything online about the 76+ models.

Could I make it work if I reuse some of the harness that's already on the bike?

Parts n more sell your harness for $75. Its not NOS but it does work very well - I have one on my K2 and will be buying one for the K4. K3 and above will work on your bike.

Thanks! I emailed a dude on eBay who had NOS K1 harnesses and asked if he had any for '76 he said he had 3 left - but he wanted 350$ for it.

I told him that was too high, at least for my opinion.

Thanks for the clarification!

Do you think the Parts n More harness would also work on a K8?

No it wont as the ignition switch is different between the K3-K6 and K7/K8. I suppose you could modify it but its not a straight swap.

I'm a little paranoid, I'm having people tell me that the PartsNMore harness won't work for my year bike so I just want to ask again and make 100% sure.

Does the "MAIN WIRE HARNESS LOOM - CB750K (73-75)" apply to my 1976 CB750K?

Sorry for the second guessing, I just hate returning stuff bought online.

NO it will not work your ignition switch is on the handle bars on a 76 and 73-75 is below the tank! there are other minor diferences as well like connector locations and so on... that make it NOT work!!!!

If it's just placement of plugs could I not just splice them?  There's a dude on eBay wanting ~350 bones for a proper NOS 76 harness and that's retarded.

75$ is much more appealing, especially if all I need to do is move a thing or two around.

I wouldn't mind moving my ignition switch anyhow.

I have to say I am very curious now about how different the K6 harness is....why not look at a wiring diagram and find out for sure...

I planned on replacing all my electronics anyways, if it's just placement of plugs/wires I think I could manage to make the 75 harness work.

I'll try and sift through some documentation to see, I can't find anywhere selling a 76+ harness - which blows.

I bought the partsnmore harness and then bought the 73 switch gear so it would all work with my 76 motor.

Sit done with a 76 and a 73 wiring diagram and the differences are not that many.

The ignition relocation is only 4 wires.  Or just mount your ignition switch below the tank.

is the Parts n More harness compatible with a 1976 CB550K or just the 750?

$75 sounds to good to be true

What exactly is a switch gear?  I probably know what you're referring to, I've just never heard of a switch gear.

Was the PnM harness a used, NOS, or custom/new?
