Topic: bike will not crank over

I have just got this 78 750 SS.It wont turn over.I found the 3 fuses and there all good.There is a green wire hanging there but I don't see anywhere to attach it.There is no power to the dash lights as well.

Has the ignition switch plug moved out of contact?---(common fault!)

sounds obvious, but is the battery dead/connected?

I have zero sings of life.I'm using a battery pack and I did check the key switch plug.All good.I do see a green wire that has no place to go. I don't have power to the top 2 fuses, just the bottom fuse.

still sounds like ignition switch to me, disconnect and jump the red to black on the loom plug and see what happens then

If the loose green wire is under the left side cover by the electrics panel, it's a spare ground.  Some models use a 3-wire winker, one of which is that ground wire.

Its alive,Broken wire and blown fuse.However it blows a fuse when you hit the start, it started with a few kicks, yet one more cool thing about these old bikes.

ok.if I use the e start it blows the fuse,what do I do know??

Does it blow instantly or after a few seconds of cranking?

When you hit the starter button, it shuts off your headlight and causes a large round relay under the left side cover to kick on and send a boat load of amps to the starter motor.  I'd check first to see if the thick cable between the relay and the starter moroe has any nicks or pinches in it.  Repair with shrink wrap and/or liquid vinyl.

If no breaks are found, turn next to the wires connecting to the starter button.
