decided to give up on trying to get disability
« on: February 17, 2010, 05:39:38 PM »
3 years ago next month i broke several vertabra after being thrown from a horse. today my attorney told me it will be at least 2 more years before i can get a hearing date in front of a judge. i'm giving up on it, i'm going to have to try to find something i can do while stoked on pain meds, that i wont have to do a drug test for that i can do while sitting. i hate to do it, even with meds the pain is pretty bad but we cant afford for me to not have any income for at least 2 more years. any suggestions? honestly i dont know what to do since i pretty much ruled out being able to hold a job since there are times when i cant do anything but lay flat and still, and theres no warning when that happens.

Hate to hear that Jeff, I can only imagine what you are going through. I don't have a clue myself. Hopefully, someone WILL though and post the info.

A friend of mine (keep in mind this is up here) started doing part time work for Pizza Pizza andswering call and placing orders. Seems alot of these types of places have move to voice over IP technology so you answer their calls from your home via your PC.

Not sure what might be available down there but I know up here it is done all over...they actually like having people all over since that way they have better hours of coverage etc.

Just a thought...

Oh and sorry to hear it has been such a long go for you Fuzzy....

Don't give upon the disability Bucky, just let the ball keep rolling while you try to do something else in the meantime, if your back gets worse you will be back to square one....2 years will go pretty quick mate..
Hope you get it sorted..

IT work can be done from your home, look into the computer industry. There are programs out there for people in all kinds of situations. Comp TIA has a program out now for people in bad situations to get free traning, I'll try and get the link to you. Don't give up my friend, it is always darkest before the dawn.

Consider getting a new attorney.  Seriously.  With an injury like you have it shouldn't take that long.
A buddy of mine just got his disability after less than two years and his problems aren't even physical....

After almost 10 years of being underfunded the Social Security Administration in the last year has been staffing up with one the of the goals to be clearing out the huge backlog of disability applications.

Do you currently see a spine doctor who states you are totally disabled and will continue to be so? If you do, go to them and get their office to help push. Don't let them slack either. If you need to find a spine doc, do it. Their statement has more clout than one would think.

You have to keep at them...the first claim is always denied, in the hope that the person will die before the claim has to be paid...you will have to get a good lawyer, and a judge on your side...the frakking lawyers (landsharks) will usually ask for a percentage of the claim.    and they usually get it......

Don't get any old lawyer either. Get a good one that is specific for SSI claims. It really makes a difference. Your lawyer going this long and only now telling you it could go for a few more years is an ass.

Yea, it took my brother 10 years to get his and only got it when he found the right lawyer. They won't come cheap but worth every penny. Hope it all works out for you as I have been struggling with back pain for 2 years now I have some idea what you are going thru. I was flat on my back for 8 weeks straight and it was a combo of pain meds and Chordizone shots in my back once a month before I could move around. So on a small scale I feel your pain.

I think there must be some kind of connection with a doctor becuase when my kidneys went south, I automatically went on disability.
I also think your lawyer is full of shiite-muslims.

Any catalogues you can do the cubicle thing with- J Crew and such?  Customer service / order takers, etc?  Bank teller sitting on a stool?
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

the number of judges that hear these disability cases is so small that there is a 2+ year backlog to get a hearing. i assume that this is different from state to state. theyre too busy spending money on bridges to nowhere named after seanators and sending the governor to see his mistress in Argentina. Mental health funding in this state is also being cut back more and more all the time.

i have been denied twice now which i undertsand happens 95% of the time in this #$%*hole of a state. they count on people getting so desperate for money that they give up. i have all my guitars and the amplifier up for sale locally (just keeping the frankenstrat and vox headphone amp) all my power and shop tools (20 ton press, metal bandsaw, mig welder, pipe bender and probably the bike lift) wifes business is not coming in like it should be by now so money is getting tight. only reason i'm keeping the motorcycle is we need 2 vehicles with my wife working at a clients store a couple of days a week and me with seeing a doc seemingly every week. ahhh #$%*it, feeling sorry for myself tonight, never mind me  ;D

well, tell one prospective employer that youre on regular dosages of narcotics for sever pain and they show you the door. ALOT of places do drug testing as a pre-employment requirement. drug testing a prospective guitar shop employee? odd

In case it might be of help to someone, my brother got the VA disability first and that qualified him for SS, he even got back pay.

my attorney tells me that when i get approved (she said she cant picture me not being approved this time around) i'll get backpaid from 365 days after the accident on. so likely 4 or 5 years worth of back pay, can you say new electricals and plumbing in the house?
