SOHC addition
« on: February 24, 2010, 02:13:58 PM »
We might have a new bike to start a topic about or new thread. The new for 2010 Honda SOHC V4 1200. Yes with the UniCam head this bike has only one camshaft per cylinder. The intake cam opens two intake valves via under bucket operation and then a cast alloy rocker arm opens exhaust valves. Hence, "UniCam" name.

Sounds interesting but is that one camshaft or one cam lobe per cylinder?

Just like the single cylinder CRF250/450 M/X bike engines, it has two lobes that operate inverted buckets with shim adjustment, that open intake valves and a "forked" rocker arm that operates off a single ex cam lobe and opens two ex valves. That have screw type adjusters.

SOHC...stands for "single over head cam" and has nothing to do with how many cam lobes an engine has.

Yea, but it actually has two cams for four cyls, unlike the standard honda SOHC4 that has one cam for four cyls... splitting hairs for sure but it is different.

Now what I would like to do is take the engine/trans/rear end and slap it into a cruiser frame. Like when they took the VFR750 and put it in a cruiser and called it the magna. That would make one sweet fast powerful bike.
