Brake Pad Replacement - CB750K
« on: February 17, 2010, 05:04:59 PM »
How hard is it to replace the pads?  I have new ones from the dealer and have a shop manual (which sucks).  It looks to me like you have to split the caliper.  2 bolts hold it together(?)  I just do not want to release the piston.  The caliper is still on the fork.  The front wheel is off.  I was hoping I could just replace these with the caliper in-place.  I have not taken a good look at it yet as the bike is in the cold garage.  Just trying to get a plan first.   Thank you

Yep, split the caliper - 2 bolts, push the piston back, install pads, reverse disassembly procedure.

I just do not want to release the piston.

There's no need to.  The piston will stay in place unless you pump it out with the brake lever.

What year?

Odds are the bike is old enough and the piston seal is crudded up enough that you might as well replace that while you are down there. You can also check the shape of the piston too.
In my mind you might as well attack that stuff while you have it apart.

Look at TT's brake faq rebuild for guidance if you need help.

Thanks for the help guys.  All good ideas.  Maybe I should take a look at the piston.  I'll see when I get it apart.  What is this TT faq thing?  Is there a link?  Thank you
