Question about titling bikes
« on: July 05, 2010, 08:29:17 AM »
I curently have 6 cb sohc bikes in various stages of decline. I am building a cafe out of one (72) as I have a title for one frame. Question is there a way to get the remainder of the bikes titled they were purchased from a bike wrecker that has since gone out of business. The oldest frame is a 1970 and the newest is a 1977. Not sure what to do. Are there titling places as there are in the automobile world?

Ridiculously easy to get a title for a bike in Michigan, they basically ask you to write out a story as to why you don't have the title, check to see if its stolen, and voila! titled bike.

Did a search saw the NY process yikes. Is there a place you can type in a vin to make sure its not stolen. I dont bwant to end up in jail over a $50.00 bike.

Do they need to inspect the frame to verify the vin# is correct?  If not you may have a great business opportunity on your hands....WINK!

I imagine it is going to quite difficult and/or expensive to title the bikes in NY.  You may have better luck titling them in another state and then transfering the titles to NY.  I had a pretty easy job of registering (not titlting) a bike in Alabama that was found abandoned in a friend's rental property.

Good Luck.

that's how staab works, registered in maine and then you take it to your state, a ton easier and the same cost as going through va
