Honda CB compatibility
« on: February 01, 2010, 10:24:59 AM »
Does anyone know if the points cover and headlight assembly from a CB750 or CB450 could fit a CB500? I have a 72' CB500 and I'm looking for parts so I will know if I can broaden my search for these items by knowing that they are compatible.

Cb650 makes a good points cover replacement.. it's much thicker than the easy-to-dent cb500/550 cover, but bolts right on.

I'm sure this has been asked elsewhere:

CB750k exchange?  Looking to transplant a k7 engine in a k3 chassis.  Any known changes to the mounting, chainline, wiring, etc?  Drag and drop, right?

You can renew an old scratched dented points cover by boiling it in wintergreen oil, apparently.

It works better if you add seafoam to the mix

probably, you could do a search.
Mounting is the same. Wiring is the same. But chainline is different. You will also need the rear wheel sprocket carrier from the K7. The sprockets on the K7(as well as on the F2) are moved more outwards to give enough clearance between the wider 630 chain and the also wider 17"x4.5 tyre.

good luck

Mike

The CB750 points cover has the "HONDA" at right angles to the screw holes, but otherwise fits, leaving the "HONDA" on an angle of about 30 degrees.

But, most used 750 covers are bent! :-\
