78F CB750 Ignition switch wire placement
« on: February 20, 2010, 02:24:37 PM »
Does anyone know, or have a 77 or 78F and would take a look at the order the wires should be in on the plug block for the ignition connector? I pulled mine off to replace the switch and the plug was so corroded it pulled right off at the wires. Now I don't know what wire goes where on the new plug I am trying to install.

There are 5 wires. Red, Black, Brown/White and two brown wires. Here is the switch layout...

      Top of switch

     Pin   Blank   Pin
     Pin    Pin     Pin
            Clip

     Bottom of switch

Can one of you guys fill in the colors for me by chance?

Well, according to Clymer and my ohm meter it's wired correctly. My right turn signal only clicks the relay once, then nothing. Neither the front running light or the rear signal flash, and the dash right blink indicator is on solid until I turn on the right signal switch, then it dims the dash indicator slightly.

The left rear blinker works normally, but the front left isn't blinking. Horn, ignition, starter brake and park light all work properly. I guess I'll assume the ignition switch is wired correctly, and by coincidence the blinker wiring went to hell while I was re-wiring the switch block.

Electrical isn't my strong area.  ???

On my 78cb750K, brown and br/white are dead - yet Red is powered to ignition and blk is hot when I turn on ignition.
NOTE: I recently replaced an old fairing and installed original headlight bucket and signals but I'm not sure why that would affect anything in the ignition switch.  I unplugged the round ignition switch and cleaned it up and seems in very good shape and cleaned up the rectangular 5 pin plug.  Is this an internal ignition switch problem?  is switch replacement the way to go?  what am I replacing exactly - just the round contact portion underneath?
Thanks.

Could anyone hook me up with the colors? I'm guessing a 78 550 is the same. I just need to know which colors match which pins.

Thanks

I noticed when i was replacing my ignition switch that the springs and contacts fall out really easy check and make sure they're all in there... and you can buy a jobber switch for about 15 bucks... at least you can here...

If you can wait till fri night I'll look at my 78k and see exactly what wires go where and let you know
