350f 400f wheel
« on: February 20, 2010, 03:55:54 PM »
I want to put a slightly larger tire on my 350f  and im trying to get all my options.

im ok with just going one size up to a 100/90/18 f and 110/90/18 rear, but id rather go 110 and 120 with the right size rim width.

does anyone know if the 400f wheels are wider? and if they are are they interchangeable?
are there any other wheels that are or do i have to relace a rim if i want to go that route?

i looked on bike bandit and a 72 350f and 76 400f have the same part numbers for hub assembly and rim

I believe the rear wheel on a 400F was 4.00x18 standard.  I have a tire that's way wider than stock on my 350F.  The only thing written on it though is MR85.  It hasn't been an issue but it is old and I am changing it as soon as I get a new tube and rim strip...

Stock Honda rims were the same width on the CB350F and CB400F, 1.6" front and 1.85" rear.  I don't know of any wheels with wider rims that a direct swap, so you would need to lace on wider rims.

If you're increasing the tire size for purely cosmetic reasons, so be it.  If you want the bike to handle and perform well, stick with 90/90-18 front and 100/90-18 rear.

Kevin,

Were there different rim widths for the different years?  I just measured two 350Fs and found 2.15 in the rear and 1.85 in the front on both of them.

How are you measuring the rim?  Bear in mind, the rim width spec is measured in the inside of the rim at the tire bead seating area.  The value is typically stamped on the rim...look carefully and you may find the numbers.

All year models of CB350F and CB400F had the same OEM rim sizes.

its mostly for looks as it is a 350f and just a cruiser....no track or extra spirited riding, but i dont want to RUIN the handling.
so i guess ill stick with the middle ground and go with the 100 front and 110 rear

If the front rim is still the original 1.6" width (look it over closely between the spoke holes and you should find a stamping), you would be better off with a 90/90 front.  100/90 is technically too wide for a WM1 (1.6") rim.

just a lil update.... the width is also very manufacturer specific...

Duro states a rim width of 2.15 even for a 90/90 18 HF819
and 2.5 for a 110/90 18
