k81 front on a cb750k2?
« on: March 01, 2010, 08:36:40 PM »
i've done a lot of tire searching! decided on the k81's. front on my cb750k2 is a 100/90/19 or 3.25 - 19. the k81 comes in a 4.10 - 19. anyone running this? Is it too big or does it work just fine?

according to the dunlop site, both 4.1/19 and 3.25/19 tires should run on 2.15 rims

3.25-19 TT 54P BW 4202-23 2.15 26.58 3.30 7/32 465 @ 32

4.10H19 4PR BW 4206-54 2.15 26.46 4.00 9/32 551 @ 41

I've run the 4.1/90-19 on my K2. You have to take one brake off if you have two, to mount and unmount the wheel. (Let the air out too.)  Otherwise it fits. Its one heck of a lot of heavy rubber. A 3.6 (is that available?) would be a better size, or even the 3.25 K81 is more than sufficient and keep the weight down. The 2.15 will open it up a tad over the 1.85.

Do you have a 2.15 front rim? stock is 1.85.  I've changed to a 2.15 x 18 and will run a 4.1/80 x 18 on current project.

oops i guess i have a 1.85. the k81 doesn't come in a 3.15 but the k70 does and it also looks the biz, so i guess i should go with k70 front, k81 rear?

I was suggesting a 3.6 tire not 3.15 (typo?) maybe I was thinking of the K70. Nevertheless, I personally wouldn't mix a K70 with a K81. They were designed for 2 different purposes. The K70 has a squared off profile for semi off road use. It was put on all the British scrambler style motorcycles. The K81 has a triangle profile for leaning into curves, an early attempt at a sportbike tire.

I'd rather have the K81s front and rear. Many use the K70s as they are period tires and popular.

I think mixing the two would feel funny. Especially a square profile in front.  Onlookers in the know would cringe.

But if you like it go for it. Its your baby.

Agreed.  I've read several times from different sources that the K81(TT100) should be used front and rear due to the profile.  I have no personal experience, though.

sweet. thanks for the info. I have plenty of "performance" bikes, so I think i'll try k70's front and rear to go for the look. if i change my mind and want performance i'll pick up some avon supervenoms. I've used those in the past and they are very very sticky for non 17's:
