what do you think if this seat?
« on: February 21, 2010, 06:02:52 PM »
Went to the ABATE Motorcycle Show in Lincoln Ne this weekend. there were some cool old Hondas there and i tried to get some good pictures that i will post here soon. i spotted a cafe'd 71 CB350 there and talked to the guy that built it. interesting fellow. he actually ended up selling this bike for $700 at the show. the handle bars were off a Schwinn bicycle, the brake light was fashioned out of a praypaint can, and there were many other odd mods. but the seat was that thing that i found interesting. its off a Harley Sportster. he said it mounted perfectly to the bike. I'm going to be working on a CB350 cafe project with my brother this summer and i kinda liked this seat idea. my brother wasn't so sure. thoughts?

It may be mounted on the bike but it doesn't look like it fits on the bike.

bicycle handlebars on a motorcycle = possible death. the tubing is nowhere near thick/strong enough to use on a motorcycle.

yeah looking at it in the picture the front of the seat doesn't look like its laying all the way down. after picturing a real cafe seat on it, i don't like this one.

Good point, something about a motorcycle thrown together with "creative" parts just doesn't sound safe on a bike thats meant to be a racer.

Sportster seats are plentiful enough, probably fairly comfortable too.  I would put one on a rat-bike, but not a show bike.

If they are good mountain bike bars, they will be strong...in fact I challenge someone to try to bend a set by hand, or by picking the bike up..

Even stock Honda bars will bend picking up the bike.. :o

i agree except for in a crash even a very low speed one.
also if they are off a schwinn they are crap. schwinn has been a foreign low quality company for the recent past, and if they are old enough to be from when schwinn WAS a good company then they are from a time that the quality of mountain bike bars was no where nearly as strong as they are today.

ohhh and im not a fan of that seat

Alan F- You may be the 1st person I've ever known to say a sportster seat is comfortable. I'm on my 2nd sporty and I can say that none of my seats were ever comfy and all of the guys on the sportster forum would back that statement up. You have to put aftermarket ones on for that.  ;D
