how to remove stuck jugs?

Hey folks--yes, I searched the topic, and didn't come up with anything too helpful...  The motor was a running CB400f with only 5800 miles.  pistons move freely in the cylinders and the heads came off fine.  I've sprayed pb blaster down the cylinder studs and around the base gasket.  I've tapped every so gently around the fins with a mallet.  Doesn't seem to want to budge...

Any other tricks out there?  Thanks!

Don't smack on the head, put a soft wood 2x4 block against it and give it a couple firmer whacks sideways and upwards.

Make sure again that every fastener is out and rock back and forth in gear a bit. Try to slip a thin putty  knife between..

It's wanting to come apart..

You can also get a nylon "body pry" to work in under the block to help break the adhesion of the base gasket

I wouldn't pry too hard, I recommend warming the block gently with a propane torch between the fins. Keep the torch moving and shoot for something close to operating temperature. Every now and then rotate the crank, the piston movement should be enough to loosen the jugs without prying much if at all.

I've become a real fan of the application of heat.  

Heat tends to eventually soften everything and cause the adhesive materials to lose strength.  Especially if those adhesive material are just junk and dirt.  

Bring it up to hot with a liberal torch played eveny around the cylinder base and crankcase top.

Victory is mine!!!  I used a heat gun and got the cans nice and warm, then a few hard taps with a mallet and she came right apart.  I can't believe how clean this pistons are!  aside from some minor deposits on the top, they look brand-spankin new.  Somebody babied this motor for the 5800 miles they put on it.
