CB 900 Custom
« on: February 23, 2010, 06:55:37 PM »
Hey Y'all

How many folks in this forum have CB 900 Customs?  I have a 1982, low miles, great shape, runs great, gas tank a mess inside.  Rode it the other day.  First nice day in a long time.

Is this a good forum for questions about 900s?  Is there a better one I ain't found yet?

I do have a SOHC that first got me to this group.  Now that I have the 900 I need to sell the 1975 CB 550 F.  Have a 1975 Suzuki GT 550, 3 cylinder, 2 stroke, very low miles to get rid of too.  Keeping my beautiful 1976 Honda Mini Trail 50, unless I find a good trade, and my Shovelhead Harley.

The CB 900 is one of those bikes that I have always wanted.  Just like the looks.  How do you like it?  What is the power like?

Thanks

I always loved the 900 f's.   The customs are ok but the shafty and dual rang BS just seemed to bulky.

Last yr of the bike 1983 CB1000C was the same bike, as i recall there were three changes the engine size went up to around 980cc, stronger rods were used, and the front fork tube dia. went up in size.

The CB900/1000C has a long wheelbase, shaft drive, dual range transmission its not a sport bike.

Thanks guys,

One of those forums, DOHC, I bookmarked.  The F Models and Customs are very different bikes.  Lots of sites for F Model info and forums.  Not much for 900 Customs.

I love the bike.  It has about 17,000 miles on it.  I rode it last week.  Yeah it's long and heavy.  I've had Harleys for 30 years.  Ride a Shovelhead Five Speed FLT Dresser, on mountain dirt roads when I feel like it.  Can't wait to take the Custom up Wilson Creek to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

It ain't a sport bike, but is damn sure fast for me.  I'll never ride it much more than 75 percent of it's abilities.  Might take it to a couple drag strips this year.  I spend too many weekends at motorcycle races workin for magazines.  I bet I can get it in the 12's.

I checked out the 900 Custom when they were new, but just couldn't bring myself to buy a Honda.  Bought another new Harley.  Almost bought one of those CBX later.  I've noticed the 900s for years and called about most of them in the local Iwanna.  Recently found a beauty, cheap.

Saw a 900 Custom, ratty lookin, on Bobby's Burn Out trailer last year at Hot Sprangs.  Chasin leads on parts bikes.  Always a good idea to have your own parts bikes.  I'm into Suzuki Samurais, have six and four good titles, tryin to build three for me and daughter.

Anywho, I might get to the other responses.  Will likely have questions.  Often run across cool old Hondas.

About the GT 550.  I know of two locals who have old two-stroke Suzukis.  I don't know what they might have for stripped bikes.  Will holler at them.  Often strippers don't have titles.

I have a 1975 GT 550 with 3,676 original miles.  Documentation, such as inspections and stickers on the original license plate.  Manuals and other paperwork.  Oddly accessorized.  Set up as a commuter / tour bike.  Big seat and sissy bar and luggage rack, front crash bars and highway pegs, large windshield with hand protection.  I remember most of them having rear sets, clip ons and expansion chambers.

I need to sell this one and a CB 550 F.  Projects that I ain't going to finish.
