Rod bolts
« on: February 24, 2010, 07:13:00 am »
Does ARP or similar make replacement rod bolts for 750 rods?

Alternately, are the OEM bolts sufficient for a warmed-over 836?

Thanks in advance,
David
Take care,
David

Hi David, You can get rod bolts from our forum sponsor APE, see their kit at the top of the page.

APE doesn't offer rod bolts as far as I know Sam. The only alternative I've found are the F2 bolts. Reworking the rods (polish beams, balance, shot peen) is a good idea too. I know someone who I did a set for that has to sell them......they only need the bolts and nuts. Never used.

I'm perhaps confusing APE with ARP, you do realise I do have an excuse. :D :D :D :D :D

Wish I knew, but I've already started working on the rods and have removed the casting flash and balanced big-ends and small ends.  I'm dropping them off for magnafluxing, shot-peening and cryo treatment today and will polish them upon their return.

All I need to source now is heavy duty replacement rod bolts.  If the OE replacements will suffice, I'm OK with that.
Take care,
David

If I'm reading correctly, the F2 rod bolts are sufficient and/or recommended for my application?

Is there any machine work necessary to use them?  If so, what needs to be done?
Take care,
David

Nope, just bolt em up. Use the same bolts on the 550.

New OEM rods bolts will work fine in an 836cc engine. Russ Collins used to enlarge rod bolt holes to accept small block,Chevy HD rod bolts of 11/32 ". Claimed to be 4 times stronger than stock Honda bolts.  Must be done by good machinist with proper machine. Not on drill press!

Sam;
We sure appreciate you putting in the plugs for us, even when it is something we don't carry :D :D :D

Back in the day, the rods were modified to take 289 Ford bolts.
