Anyone rigged a K3 CB750 so the headlight stays on?
« on: April 24, 2005, 06:00:49 PM »
I was poking through the wiring diagram for my bike to see if I could set it up so the headlight would remain on (like modern bikes), but the rest of the lights would be turned on and off with the switch on the handlebars. Electrical work on bike, cars etc. is not my strong suit, so needless to say I was a bit frustrated with the diagram. Anyone tried this?

I haven't tried it, but I have a '75 F which is set up that way. I don't think that it should be very difficult. Remember though, the '75 and later SOHC4's do not have a light switch, they all come on with the key switch.

Even back in the '70's it was recognized that visibility of motorcycle riders was an issue. I just added it to my routine, mount the bike, up with the side stand, on with the ignition, check kill switch, on choke, on headlight, etc. You get so it is second nature.

I agree that it's a good idea to always have the headlight on when riding, but it's nice to be able to turn it off when doing things like timing adjustment and carb synching, so I don't run the battery down.

Good point about being able to shut it off when having it idle for extended periods of time, I hadn't considered that.

I looked on Old Man Honda's electrical pages and think I may have figured it out. I might give it a try anyway.

you could use a 2 pole switch.it will have 3 terminals. wire the common terminal to the low beam. one will go to the ignition switch 'on' wire (with fuse), the other will go to the wire you took off the light. the switch will then select low beam on when ignition on, or normal light controls when flicked over. this should not affect high beam, just keep the low beam on.......like a volvo.
i haven't tried it in practice, so be brave.

The citizens will still say they didn't see you at the accident scene.
All lights on did is wear out my battery every season.
