LOL... Hi Sam,
Rob (my Rob) mentioned that someone from this forum said hello, i will let him know it was you..

Re the Sprint... i was supposed to ride but due to other circumstances (injured back at the Bol and moving house) i asked Rob to step in... he did do very well and is a very competant rider...
The Clutch is a little worse for it and the rear sprocket is now just a decorative item but hey, we got a 2nd so its all worth it..

Thanks for looking out for us...

All the best,
Alex

I wasn't expecting to see any members from the board as no one posted they were going apart from Clive Brooker who supplies Jim Redmans bike. Clive was struggling for a head mid week and due to the fact that Jim rode the teams DOHC Martin, looks like he didn't make it.  :(
As well as meeting Rob, I met Andy who was giving his bike its first outing. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=70350.0
Rob had a bit of a battle with the clutch on his first practice off the line but got better as the day progressed, he did well. 8)
Where dose your team name come from ? quite famous in endurance circles. ::)

Sam. :)

P.S. did he get any video, noticed he was wearing a helmet cam. ;D ;D ;D

Hi Sam,
TBH i have just been dipping my toe in this forum for a while, but kept seeing Rob (Voxhonda) on here and as we have been speaking for a couple of years now (wow that's gone quickly) i thought i would say hi...

The bike is not made for sprinting, but since i have had it rebuilt and fresh on the heels of the Bol d'Or Classic i wanted to get it out there...
Rob (my Rob, Rob (Voxonda), this could be confusing..!) had a lot of fun and apart from the 10k starts killing the clutch (which is being rebuilt for Mallory) he did well..

Where does the name come from.... well from Mr Peter Darvill himself... (this is where i squirm)... i married into the family many years ago and when we moved to the Isle of Man it became increasingly difficult to work with my previous Team, i have had many good years with them but as with all things this came to a natural end and this promted me to approach Peter to ask him if i could reform the Team and return to Endurance Racing... The rest is the history we are making right now...

New website is nearly done, loads of ex Darvill Racing members are uploading photos (amazing classic shots since the fifties)...

Regards,
Alex

I first took notice of Alex in a magazine, think it was Classic Racer, with a pic of him on Donington (or Mallory?) when he showed the restored, ex Peter Darvill bike, to Mr.Darvill. Still a very nice image, very emotional.
Later had a short conversation with Alex on the circuit of Zolder. After that thru mail and forum. And yes, it has been awhile so time to catch up in real life.

LOL...
I had forgotton about that... it was Mallory Park, Festival of 1000 bikes (1st or 2nd time the event ran), i had to rob some leathers of a member of the public, the scrutineers had refused to let me on with mine... they WERE tatty  :D
Anyway, i had these 'Power Ranger' red leathers, blue Arai, blue gloves and black boots... looked shocking....

THEN... to top it off, Peter Darvill was up on the bank by Edwina's and i am just getting into a little groove and i forget that this is RH gearshift... now i like to use my rear brake for a bit of 'backing-in' so i look up to see where Peter is, feeling REALLY proud to be riding the bike (which incidentally is the machine that he was on at Barcelona when he had his accident in '76) when i decide that i need to scrubbing some speed before the left-right flick of Edwina's so i give the right-foot a good jab... Yup.... Lock-up...

I proceeded to lock-up the back for about 30 yards, in front of a couple of thousand spectators which was bad enough, Rear smoking... the sinking moment was seeing Peter put his hands over his eyes... SHAME....

Anyway, somehow (no idea how) i managed to recover it before the big barrier that they had placed over the runoff and (yes i am very proud) i made it through and completed the lap...

The boys thought it was 'Spooky' that i was able to make it round.... this is where my nickname came from...

Then there was Zolder, enjoyed that, again on the same bike.... i have just finished having this rebuilt, the engine needs a refresh now but will be out again this year...

Thanks Rob for the memories.... sweet...

Laters,
Spooky...

Best Regards,

Alex

Just a picture of my all-time hero on the replica. Bike is being (better) prepped now for the coming year, with full fairing, new oiltank, SMAC wheels.

The 18" front I already had, the rear was bought from someone. The rear one is wider and can take a 140 tire. But the wheel need some attention, due to the bad construction of the SMAC transmission damper.

Another pic of 'the man', very nice 'cause the man behind him on the actually Laverda SFC that won the 1971 24 hr of Oss, is his former teammate Harrie van der Kruijs. They won the 1972 edition together and let the '73 untill their blindingly fast 970cc Japauto/Dresda broke it's frame. It is so nice to see them 'battling' it out!

Today I received a, very sad, E-mail from our member Alex Aitchison, aka Darvill Racing here, that Peter Darvill passed-away last Thursday at Nobles Hospital on the Isle of Man. Mr. Peter Darvill was a great contender in the 50's, 60's and 70's both on short circuit  as well as in Endurance racing.
My heart goes out to Alex and his family.

After this sad news, had to pick myself up and best way to do that is to buy yourself a gift. Our mate scunny, from New Zealand, helped in purchasing a nos Lynx manifold for double weber/Dellorto's. So I bought a fine set of double Dellorto's to match. It is sometihng different than the CR or Mikuni. Problably not as good, reckon they come from the stone age, but it is different and certainly look good and rough ;D
Is there someone here a bit familiair with these babies?

Cheers, Rob

G'day Rob,

Don't have a lot of experience with these myself, but many of the sidecars down here run them.
The chair blokes like them because they have a larger fuel bowel and run an accelerator pump.
They adapt well to methanol and give good response down low.
Don't see to many solo's down here running them.

Cheers,
Brian

Hey Brian,

Thanks mate, back in the '70's they were used on the 750/bigbore endurance racers. Either Weber or Dellorto. For me it is a nice period piece. Just love the good old days. Think of running them on a F2 head, big inlet valves and a Web .370.

Cheers,
Rob

Well Dellorto's are on their way over, and so is a new set of insulators (from Oz) for the Lynx manifold. And after intensive searching the web found some settinglists where I can start from, it's in swedish but will have to cope with that.
