So I am considering mounting a small fairing on a CB750 for touring purposes. Should be big enough to take some wind off the chest but not HUGE like a large vetter. Looking for photos (sideview and cockpit view) of any and all fairings that you may have on your CB750. NOT interested in BIG fairings but a something inbetween a flyscreen and a half-fairing.

Anyone got pics of a short dunstall fairing mounted in their bike? I have only found this example...

Also interested in how the fairing mounts. Handlebar mounts would not be suitable for this project due to potential issues at speed or high winds.

Lastly fairing should be compatible with K1/K0 bars. Tough order I know!

So summary of this:
1. Size - between flyscreen and half-fairing
2. Not handlebar mounted
3. Compatible with K0/K1 bars.

Also interested in feedback from those that have small fairings - how much use are they on a CB750? Do they reduce rider fatigue over long distances? Offer any wind/rain protection?

I don't have a fairing now, but was considering one for the bike, since I plan to tour on it. But, I have done a lot of reading here and elsewhere that suggests, for a tall person like you or I (you look tall in pics), you'd need a pretty tall (ie, unsightly) fairing to do more good than harm. My impression is that some of the shorter windshields and fairings may just create more head buffeting. I am interested to hear what others think, though.

This is the one that I had on my original 750 K4. I recovered it from the swamp and started to get it back into shape for the rebuild. Once I decided to not do the build I have it about 85% restored. Windshield is almost perfect. It mounts off the forks. It is light weight. What I still need to do is sand blast the rust on the three bar mounts and I was going to repaint the gold pin strips. What it looked like when I recovered it from the swamp.

I have buffed out the majority of the black fiberglass to a decent shine and the windshield has been clean/polished to extreamly nice condition. I was going to replace all the hardware with stainless screws/bolts+nuts. If you want, I can take some pics of it in its current condition.(Glass off of fairing)
Oh, by the way, the turn signals stay mounted to the bike and just fit into rubberpadded holes in the fairing. The only thing that you need to take off the bike to mount it is the reflectors. They screw onto the fairing.

Thanks for the links and some of these look ok. I was trying to avoid the handlebar mounted ones though as these may affect handling at speed or with crosswinds. But actually the first link to National looks promising. You are correct that I am tall (6`4) and I should have mentioned this as it will matter.

I currently have 3 fairings for my VStrom and they are different heights and will give different amounts of protection and buffeting. The one I have on for winter is just below the optimal (which is nose level) and I do get a little bit of buffeting still but not too bad. #2 fairing (a Givi) was around the same height but terrible for head buffeting. The last one #3 is shorter and gives clean air around the head but gives less wind on the body - this fairing comes up to lower torso only. It will be ideal for summer.

So..for the 750 I was looking for something like the #3 fairing - coming up to low-mid torso and angled in such a way that no head buffeting would result. Not really looking for a tall, head-height fairing but something lower and sleaker that will take a little of the wind off. The cheap EMGO fairings look ok but they are handlebar mounted and apparently not so good at speed...anyone confirm this?

I have tried the Dennis Kirk fairing on a 750 before and for me it was terrible. The buffeting was unbearable and I had to remove it asap.

Ive done all my touring fairing-free before and its fine but thinking about trying something different.

Wow great job on restoring that fairing! I am very impressed! Thank you also for the offer but Ill pass just now - its a bit wider than I am looking for (I know Im picky!). But maybe a cut down version of this would do -you have given me some ideas in any case. Any pics of the cockpit? Or where it attaches to the fork?

These are all I have right now.... you can see in the first pic the silver bar on the left above the handlebar which is the left mount. On the second pic, silver bar on left just below handlebar and the silver bar to the right and running beside the right handlebar. Then there is one at the bottom center that mounts up by the fork lock. There is no wind buffet that I ever experianced with this on the bike. In fact, being 6'2" I never even got helmet buttet. The wind mainly hit you from the rear a little. I did the ton +20 with this on the bike. Put 15k on the bike with it...and loved it. With stock handle bars,(bottom photo) you hands are protected where I had higher/pullbacks(first photo) and my hands got the wind blast/rain/etc. The side bars mount off the fork clamp bolts.

Andy: there's a 100% clear, frame-mounted universal fairing out there (the name escapes me, unfortunately) that was first marketed in the 1970s, then recently came back for the V-twin craze. It comes in regular height and extra-tall height. I'll try to find a link to one, somewhere...
It's current: I saw it last Fall in a bike shop for sale, new.

The reduction in fatigue is so dramatic that I don't ever ride without one, even in town riding. Typically, with any of the frame-mounted fairings, speeds of 50+ MPH will keep the rain off of all but your feet.

I found an old Vetter fairing on CL last spring and refinished and mounted it. I don't like the look of them stock - and the windshield on the one I bought was junk - so I fabricated one out of polycarbonate. This is what it looks like. I'm 6' even and this windshield still allows wind in my face. I made a larger one for colder weather riding that better protects my face. Both take some of the pressure off your chest and makes rides more comfortable.

I was kinda looking for a Road Glide shape for the front end - and I still need to fab a headlight ring.

Kenny good looking bike there and you did a good job with the fairing. I do like how it sits and the low windscreeen is very useful. Im looking for something a little bit slimmer though. More like a dunstall style fairing. Although Im curious to see how Mikes fairing (shown above) looks on the bike. Its a good size.

Another factor I failed to mention was the fairing has to be sturdy, light and secure -so if I was going along a very rough road (lets say forest track or third-world type road) then its not going to fall off. Maybe Im just asking too much

It's mounted at the headlight ears and handlebars. I'll see if I can get it on the bike tomorrow and take a pic.

This is a Vetter Quicksilver on my CB550F. It has the stock bars. Much smaller than the Windjammers, but still frame mounted.
It works very well on trips, the freeway, etc. I also have side extenders (not mounted) that shields a bit more wind in the cold weather.

Highly recommended. They aren't that plentiful, and the frame mount adapters to specific bikes are even rarer. But, its a great set up.

Cool. I have never owned one, but I think it complements the look of these very well and appears to be much lighter than some of the alternatives. If I run across one of them I hope it is at a time when I have some spare cash.

I am in the market to sell mine, since I am not going to restore the other K4. Once I get some parts of it cleaned, re-pin stripe it, and put new stainless hardware on it, I will put it up for sale. Unless someone wants it as is.....then that is a possibility also.
