I just got my replacement sprockets from Z1 (17/48). I pulled the front sprocket cover off and MAN, that's nasty! Sorry for the bad cell phone picture, but I had to get a picture. Still waiting for my X chain from KSC Direct - they are SLOW compared to Z1.

congrats on the first start up!! i take it all the smoke is from some exhaust bolts that need to be tightened down? sounds like it needs a good sync too, but it fired up pretty quickly, so congrats!! i'm hoping mine will do the same!

The smoke is from the assembly lube on the 836, but mostly from the leaky exhaust. I need to fabricate some longer "C" collars as this 4-into-1 is from a K8 (I believe) and I'm trying to use it on my K1. The exhaust ports on the head must be different depths between the years.
But yes, she started right up!

I put my sprockets on (17/48). I also rattle canned the sprocket side plate gloss black. I like how it's a contrast piece. At some point I would like to try the DIY powdercoating, but for now I need to spend my money on the things that actually make this bike function. I'm still waiting on my X chain from KSC Direct.
Now to rebuild and repaint the shocks...

I got all the electrical working except the turn signals. They would come on but not flash. So after a bit of research I went to Advance Auto and bought the 552 flasher unit for $6.29. It works perfectly! I was even able to fit it in the rubber mounting strap that the original one fits in.

Yes, they are from a CB1100. I have not done anything to them yet, but I plan to tear them down and rebuild/repaint them. I have a pdf of the process if you are interested - just pm me your email addy. It is quite involved, but should make for some nice looking/functioning shocks.

Here is the second start of my CB750. I found some different exhaust clamps that fit this exhaust better. It pulls the header in tighter against the head - no leaks! I also started it without the choke on. It started right up and purred like a kitten. After running for about 4 or 5 minutes I shut it off and checked for leaks. I found a couple places around the cylinders where oil is seeping a bit. I'll have to figure that out later...

if you're leaking oil, I don't know of any way to address the issue w/out taking the engine out...
you could just pretend it's a triumph or harley and live with it like that...

what are your plans for paint? I'm a painter so let me know if you have ?'s. if you're doing it yourself I can help out so it will look right. you can do a decent job at home w/ rattle cans if you do the prep and finishing right. but the clear available in cans won't last nearly as long or look as good. if you have someone else do it and want a 2nd opinion just ask me. glad to help out.

I'll fill in the holes soon, but for now I wanted to share that I took her for the first ride today!!! This bike has not been ridden for more than 35 years, so this is quite an accomplishment to say the least!
I finished plugging the holes in the tank after relocating the petcock, then adjusted the clutch a bit before heading down the driveway, across a bit of snow and ice as I rode down the street and back before putting her back in the garage for further tweaking and inspection (fuel coming from one of the carb overflows - probably stuck float). I want to go over every single nut and bolt before I ride it again. I saw what happened on a recent episode of the Cafe Racer show when the yoyo didn't have his front wheel tightened down enough, and I don't want to have a similar thing happen to me! Yikes!!!

The only photo I have right now is what it looked like outside today when I went on the very short maiden voyage. C'mon spring!

I just dropped my seat off at J & J Upholstery to get the leather and snaps put on. I'll post pics when I get it back in a couple weeks.

OK, I finally got my master cyclinder yesterday (2/12) that I ordered on 12/23 from David Silver Spares in the UK. While the shipping took a long time, the price was good ($54.60 shipped from UK to US), the quality is even better! This thing is a work of art!!! Now to swap out the old one for this beauty!

Is that an F header? I don't know...
I bought it a couple years ago and just used the mounting hardware that came with it. I did notice that the finned header clamp pieces are slightly different inside. The original '71 pieces have a deeper recess, therefore need a slightly longer half round piece. I used the stock ones first, but it leaked like crazy so I switched to the ones that came with the header and they pulled it tight against the head. And yes, I used new O rings

These aren't mine in the pic, but give you an idea of where I am talking about.

I picked up my seat this morning that I dropped off a couple weeks ago at J&J Upholstery in Columbus, OH. Greg did a great job for only $175! He used black vinyl with a decent amount of foam padding, and functional snaps all the way around so I can get to the zeus fasteners that hold the seat on.
