I am working on a lighter cleaner looking clamp for 750s. Used to be a steel chromed one like this years ago. I think Ness made them..

Anyway it will be a smooth band that goes around the pipe, with a thicker area, that is slit and has an Allen head pinch bolt.

Stock weighs 187 grams, this is at 74, but I am taking more off it yet.

Anyway, should have one ready for pics tommorow nite..

Exhaust clamp for any 750 Spigot mount engine.

That is first prototype, guess how I cut the outer part of the band, on the non clamping area?

I will probably thin the band area, by quite a bit, and maybe radius the outer edge (more work).. but that would make em look lighter..67 gr from 187.. they will be lighter than that..

With these installed, you can remove a 4-1 header in 3 minutes or less, dont need to remove claps and they wont gurf the frame (or require removing the clamps)like the stock ones do when removing pipes..

I see CycleX has these steel ones for around 20 bucks a set. Pretty Fugly though compared to your pretty billet style units.

I'm guessing rotary table on a mill. What do I win if I'm right???
Here is a pic of the clamps I made, using .100 wall tubing. No idea how much they weigh, but I was going for as light as possible.

The clamp portion was done on a mill, no rotary table used on the piece at all..

The outer part of the band portion, (not the clamping part) was done on a machine tool without the motor running..

At least 4 machines come to mind that could do this..

The linear marks are making me think you "broached" the OD with lateral stokes of the carriage, slightly rotating the chuck between strokes, ala shaper??? (still in a lathe)

Yup, exactly... the shaper method on the lathe..very observant..

.. I thought the tool marks would make someone think water jet or laser..

I have a small shaper, it is tucked away right now.. they are really fun to use. If you locked the spindle (from turning) you could use a milll or a drill, be easier than the lathe, also can be done on shaper, slotter, slotting attackment on mill.
I did not clamp it in the lathe, I slipped it on a mandrel, then turned the chuck.

I did this for a few reasons, mainly to ilustrate that you could actually make parts yourself with little equipment, ie a triple tree with a lathe and a drill press..

Inventive! I use my lathe to cut key groves on various parts, the only thing is it feels pretty abusive for the small Logan.
What was the size of the raw piece before you started? I will have to make some clamps myself soon.

I cant turn this into a DIY thread, its my income (hopefully, you will under stand)

The smooth clamp is the original prototype, which did not quite do it for me.The grooved ones is what I will be selling soon, they are a few steps from finished in the photos. May make a few smooth ones as well.
I will have three sets ready in the next few days, first set is spoken for.
The addition of the groove is more work, but makes it lighter, better looking and cools off quicker..

How about exhaust clamp with two bolts? You can install those w/o taking off the exhaust.

I got two sets of these left at 100 bux plus shipping. not sure I will make any more soon, a bit labor-intensive. Should be a pic up soon of a finished set on a motor..
