oil change woes...
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:51:04 PM »
ok, new plugs new oil/filter the whole basic minor tune up.  all went well but found some small pieces of metal floating around in the filter housing.  this bike is new to me, maybe put 100-200 miles on it last fall. my first bike, im a newbie.  im not a mechanic but i know more about cars than bikes, but its all relative right?  what am i lookin at here, just wear from the cylinders, rings?  is this engine gonna make it much longer? 74 550, speedo said 31K.

Are the bits iron (test with a magnet)?  Silver in color or some other shade?  Is your engine making any odd noises you've been wondering about?
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

hmm...mostly silver in color..wasnt making any weird noises before it got too cold to ride here, was having some other issues (acceleration/hesitation) but no bad noises coming out of her.

was reading it could be bad if theres a lot of metal, obviously...but some were saying on other searches that the clutch can shed some metal.  it wasnt a lot, but enough to recognize and worry/wonder.

A picture would be best but, a little bit of metal can be normal where and tear. Really it matters what it looks like.
