kick starter
« on: February 27, 2010, 02:12:27 PM »
went to the local motorcycle salvage yard and took a kick starter off what was left of a 1974 cb 550 ( as painted on frame) , went home tried to install it on my 1974 cb550 . The problem is that it fits just fine but the foot peg will not go back on once the kick starter is installed, there is just not enought room for both. Did honda have different foot pegs or kick starter assemblies in 1974 and  where should I look to find picture of this area of the bike ?

The parts fiche lists three different numbers for the kick start lever, first two superseded by the third.  Don't know what the difference is.  Are the pegs mounted correctly?

I believe that the pegs are mounted correctly , I had looked at that site but could not see the relationship between the kick lever and foot peg to see if  pegs from another year/model bike had been installed over the years.

Probably need to post a pic.

Obviously, a 74 CB550 kick start lever should work on a true 74 CB550 with standard foot pegs.  So, someone has some faulty info.
