question about my 550 rear wheel
« on: February 28, 2010, 07:12:19 PM »
Quick question for you guys...

When I started REALLY looking over my rear wheel, I noticed that the spoke heads on alot of the spokes were not flush into the "pockets" on the drum...you can see light through there....is this normal/acceptable?  The holes don't look very worn out, and I'd like to hear some opinions before I go to the trouble of restoring it.

Thanks in advance,

~Joe

Are the spokes "loose" or not?

I'm pretty sure there are two different shaped spokes and some are for left side and other for right. If they are seating in a "natural" way -- meaning a well designed fit, they may have gotten mixed up in the past. I won't speculate whether there's a safety issue here and will leave that to someone who really knows. I will say I've been riding my 750 with some spokes looking not quite right and so far I've been fine, but that's only a few thousand miles. I will change them back next time the tire comes off, though.
