For my CB350F what if...
« on: March 01, 2010, 02:19:05 PM »

I'm still playing with ideas for what I plan on doing to my newly acquired 73 CB350F (especially since it is completely torn down and frame off now).

But, just suppose I decided to switch over to a rigid frame.

Where would I start looking to find one that would fit the engine?

I had never heard of after market frames for anything other than the CB750.
Now  1972 CB350FX (experimental v2.0)
        1981 CB650c Custom with '79 engine (wifes)
        1981 CB650 engine
        2004 HD XL883C Custom
        1977 Yamaha XS750D (in progress)
Then 1972 CL175
        1964 Yamaha YGS-1T

Yea, I was pretty sure no one made one specifically for the CB350F... but was wondering if anyone knew of another frame that would work...and where to find it  :P

That frame on eBay is the only 350F rigid frame I have ever seen.

1972 350f rider: sold
1972 350f/466f cafe: for sale
1977 CB400f cafe:sold
1975 CB400f rider: sold
1970 CB750 K0 complete bike: sold
2005 Triumph Sprint ST 1050 rider

Well, I'm a bit skeptical about that eBay frame...as there was no 350F in 71...

I considered it, but the $125 shipping ultimately made me say no...

I think that Ebay frame is a modified CB350 Twin frame. Hard tail kits are quite common for CB450 and 350 twins. There are a few people who make Hard tail kits for Hondas Keep searching Ebay for hard tail kits and you will come across one sooner or later.

I am curious. Is the bike a total basket and not worth rebuilding to something close to stock? The reason I ask is not meant to be rude or so called elitist, but from what I have read and seen in recent years about the 350F is that it is pretty much the only one of the early 70's Hondas that has some collectible value. Due, I guess to the short production run and increasing rarity of surviving ones. I had one in 72-73 and it was a wonderful ride, reliable and very comfortable to take on all day trips up and down the coast. If I had found one for the $400 I paid for the cb500 I recently got, I sure would have got it instead.

I would be willing to modify your stock frame into a rigid for you...

Hey there Jordan,

I understand about this bike and returning it to stock condition.  I actually haven't finalized my decision on which way I want to go with the project yet.  I'm still gathering information (hence asking about rigid frames).

It isn't a basket case.  It was actually in good shape and running when I got it.  But, I decided to break it down and build it ground up.  I just don't know which way I'm going yet, custom or restoration.

I see the merits of both cases, but also don't want to fall into the trap of "It's a rarer bike you HAVE to restore it."

How true, an easy trap to get hung up in. As long as you are happy with the results thats what really counts, I was just curious.

Rare schmare... IF you cut it up and make a hard tail it just makes all the remaining ones worth .50 cents more. Maybe not many were made (in relation to what?) but the key here is it is your bike and vision. I belive in making them what YOU want. Even the Sand cast stuff drives me crazy. There were 7000+ of them! Thats 140 PER state...lol. Anyway. I say follow your inner mechanic and build what you want to ride!

Good luck either way.
