general engine help for a beginner
« on: January 15, 2006, 04:21:35 PM »
hi i currently ride a cb125 and also have a cb 400f im fixing up. i have some beginners questions, How will i know if i have low compression? what can be done to restore compression? what exaclty is back pressure and how does it affect the engine? how will i know if my battery is going bad? how can you tell if an engine is seized or bad? Thanks i know these seem like silly questions and i have a rough idea what they all are, but i would like some verification. ANy tips are greatly appreciated

These are really beginner question's but everyone has to learn I f someone will give you advise listen i was taught.
Low compression is caused by worn cylinder's ring's bad valve's you have to find the prob to fix it with new valves and seat's or boring out and new piston's and ring's.
Back pressure is put on engine by restritive exaust or muffler's it slow's down the exaust
Seized engine you will know because it is stuck by overheating ,starving of oil or in best case not being turned over in a long time if stuck from sitting the ring's are rusted to the cylinder's and you can put deisel or furnice oil in the cylinder's in time it will free it up stick it annyother way it's going to cost you.
Bad Batt won't take charge or has little cranking power.
good luck
