1975 CB400 F kickstarter issues
« on: September 23, 2018, 12:43:21 AM »
Hello gents/ladies,

I have a 1975 CB400 F, my kickstarter lever/joint have recently been kicked to the point of no return! I'm having a seriously hard time finding the part, after hours searching I've had no luck at all. The bike itself has been completely stripped back with no electric start and is running the kickstart only and ideally I'd like to keep it that way. I'm stressing a fair bit as I indeed on riding the bike this coming weekend in the distinguished gentleman's ride, this is a yearly thing for me and I would be devastated if I couldn't make it, but without being able to start the bike it's not going to happen.

So I have a couple of questions:

Does anyone in the UK have one available?

Would the kickstarter from a 75 CB550 f fit? I've heard they used the same spindle on the F's and I'm assuming the clearance would be similar to the 400...

Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Cheers,
Jamie

What part number are you looking for?  Have you looked at 350f parts?

I believe 550 are different but ones off a 350f are said to be the same/close enough, though have never had one to try.

The 400F and 350 Four use the same "knuckle" but different arms. If the knuckle/joint/whatever is broken... you're kinda out of luck as this is one of the more difficult parts to find. I have to assume the arms are different for a reason, but one may fit the other at least one way?

It's CMSNL.com - and the "joint, kick arm" and "kick arm, complete" (includes all parts) have shown no stock for a LONG time. I am on the wait list for both. They do have just the arm (no pivot joint, pin, etc) which are available at a shocking price

Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. I ended up ordering the last one CMS had available for a CB350.

As soon as it arrives I will give a update in regards to fitting and whatnot.

Hi guys,

Just a quick update, the kickstart arm/knuckle arrived today from CMS, it was off a CB350/4 and I can confirm it was a straight swap, didn't have to change the arm or modify in anyway! Great news! The old girl is up and running again and I just went for a much needed ride!

Cheers,
Jamie!

Hi Jamie,

I have the same problem - need a complete kick start.

That part from CMS; was the part number 28300-333-010? Thins is now listed as not available!!

And it was a perfect replacement?

Cheers

Any chance you could post a link and part number to the kickstart you swapped in? I ordered a kickstart from what I thought was a cb350/4 on Ebay but the spindle was noticeably loose fitting. My cousin managed to find a completely different kickstart from an unknown bike but with identical teeth that slotted straight on, but the shape of the arm didn't work.

thanks
