What is a 554?
« on: March 02, 2010, 11:51:06 AM »
Pardon my ignorance about the smaller SOHC4 bikes but is this a bored 550 or did they make a 554 or did he just list it wrong? :)

The 550 "four" has an actual displacement of 544cc.

Might this be the first time a posting was made with errors?

On second thought, that's just the exact displacement, they round the number off to get "550"

almost every bike under the sun is not the exact displacement of their given name.  Yamaha 650 is actually 647cc, cb400f is actually 408cc, etc.

Edit: sounds like that is incorrect as well, as 544cc is the exact displacement according to Twotired.

Actually one of my craigslist searches is coded as 554 due to having seen this a number of times in the past.  It does find an occasional hit.
