stock were steel. I'd think the soft bronze would eat away MUCH faster. Maybe last 5000 miles?
The thing about common sense is that, it's not that common.

I agree that the bronze would eat faster, but what about phosphoric bronze guides? I've read that they last more than steel. What about the durability of Dynoman valve guides? are they made of phosphoric bronze?

Hello all!
I'm looking for a 836cc kit. Where is the best place to get one?
I found one on the cyclexchange site thats reasonably priced http://www.cyclexchange.net/Honda%20Page.htm
Has anyone had any experience with these guys? it looks like they make some pretty interesting things.
Also curious about jetting or re-carbing and cams for this setup. possible weber carbs?
Someone point me in the right direction!
PS: How about that rain at the chicago Mods Vs Rockers. Wow i got soaked!!

What did you end up going with on this? I've got a 1978 CB750F and I'm thinking about going with the 836cc kit since I need to pistons anyways. I've been trying to find out as much info as possible to make a decision, and I can't find anyone who has actually bored out an F model themselves!
I'm trying to figure out if I should go with the Wiseco kit (which supposedly fits both the K and F models, and that doesn't make much sense to me), or the one Cycle Xchange offers that is strictly for the F model at the same price... They look the same though.

You guys gotta keep in mind there are 2 750F engine varieties. Yours and mine. 75/76 and 77/78. The 75/76 (mine) is basically a K engine. The 77/78 is just that, a 77/78F meaning it is the one with the different top end and will not work with a early F/K top end. Dynoman.net has the kit you need. Not sure about the other suppliers.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Yeah, someone just showed me the dynoman kit, and it definitely looks like the right one for my engine. All the others I've seen should end up giving me some kind of problem with compression, clearance, etc... Thanks.

I have not completed the build yet. This kit is clearly the way to go though: http://www.dynoman.net/bikepages/F2/pistons.html
Its just more expensive AND then you have to completely re-work the F head. So its just kinda disappointing.

I think what I will do is keep my eyes peeled at the swap meets for a 392 head and a set of K jugs, then just get the wiseco kit.
I almost bought a 392 head last year at the swap meet for $50 bucks but for some reason I put it back.

Maybe I will be able to find the parts I need this summer, then i can send the jugs and the head out to be machined while I'm still riding the bike (with my complete F motor) then when I get the stuff back I can Build it in a weekend.

Didn't pick up on which bike you have, but if it's an F2/F3 then you must use this guy, because he supplies pistons with the correct dome to make the right compression. New for 2009. People have been putting standard 836 pistons into this and gaining nothing for years.

I've decided to fight temptation, and I'm sticking with stock. Basically the main reason is that I want it to be as reliable as possible. It doesn't make much sense to put a big bore kit in my bike, because I don't want to upgrade the entire engine. It would be nice, but I just can't afford all that high performance stuff. It should probably be completely built for racing, or completely built stock. Not mixed...

Good luck with the F.
