Yamaha "AG"? 175
« on: February 22, 2010, 06:18:48 PM »
picked up a '72 yamaha 175 two stroke... good tires, complete, $28. Engine kicks over, but I haven't cleaned it up enough to see if it'll run... Way dead battery...

The question is, anyone know what an AG model is? Found a pic of a '74 AG175, which looks kinda like this bike; so I'm assuming that is what it is.

PO had no clue, just that it ran a couple years ago. I figure the tires are worth the $$.
Pic's will come later, still trying to unpack all my junk, and here I am getting more. Figures.

   You mean one like this?

Never heard of it myself. Now, I AM familiar with the CT175 and then the DT175. What's the deal? ???

AG short for Agricultural, models from 90cc up to 250cc here in New Zealand, govt bought thousands of them, I bought a 175 and a 100 for $50 in mint (I mean mint eat your dinner off the motor) condition when the Lands & Survey sold them off.
Great bikes, probably don't need the battery either, they go quite well without one. ;D
New gas maybe a carb clean out and brush the plug, 20 kicks later you should be riding. :D

Still make them new, here's a photo of the new AG200E (E for electric start)

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I appreciate the clarification on this, I didn't have a clue! All I knew was like CT, DT, IT, YZ, MX and such.  ;)

Just found out it's not an AG, it's a CT1... Still had the original, bone-dry '72 battery in it. Wonder if new acid will make it work? ;D

Hi Cormac
The CT1 has a flywheel magneto. The battery is not needed for the engine to run.
The Manual Club has a manual for this series of Yamaha LT2 LT3 AT1C AT2 AT3 and finally CT1.

Ditto on the mag and battery deal and those Lil' Yamaha 175s were a pretty peppy bunch. I had one that would tend to pull the front wheel up, with hardly any effort and I was up around 180-185ibs at the time. A blast to plunk around on out in the woods and such.

Found it... RepairManualClub seems nuttier than squirrel poo. Jumped through a few hoops to get registered, only to find out that the CT1 manual is the only one with a file size of "0".
