Hole in exhaust - bad?

I've got a hole in my CB550 #4 exhaust caused by rust.  It makes popping noises and I can feel some of the exhaust pressure flowing out of it.  Will this cause any problems?  And will I be able to pass inspection like this?

You could go to an auto parts store and get some muffler tape as a temp fix.

Or go to Home Depot or some other home center or heating supply house and get that aluminum tape that they are using on ductwork now. Very shiny stuff. Should almost blend in with the chrome. It's a temporary solution anyway!

Blowing exhaust is a failure on Inspection in UK (we call it "MOT" after the government department that introduced it). Can't think your rules will be very different.

Is there a way to patch the holes or can I get something less than a completely new exhaust system?

A good welder should be able to fill that in.  Or mr jb weld?

I used a product called 4 minute epoxy steel type 44 by VersaChem. It is used to seal and fill holes in engine blocks and steam pipes. It dries to a dull gray. It can be sanded but I didn't bother. I used chrome bumper paint to finish it off. My temporary fix has held up well for 2 years, but I don't have that many miles on it.
