Pet Tales , Let's Hear Them!
« on: March 03, 2010, 08:05:26 PM »

Okay, I know that we have a thread for the pictures, so why not one for the Tales (doesn't mean that you can't throw in a picture or two, if you like. ;)

I've got lots of material myself, As I'm sure ANY good pet owner does. But, I'll start off with what just came to me. I was sitting here checking the SOHC4 Forums, to see what was going on and as Molly (my Old female Calico) was leaving the kitchen after eating, Joy (my big Black female cat (looks like she might have SOME Siamese, maybe)was laying on my computer desk watching me and trying to keep up with Molly. Also, on the wide chair (separating the Kitchen/dining area from the Living room) was Cocoa (our Rat Terrier? She was laying on top of the back of that wide chair). As Molly was going into the living room, Joy jumped up and onto the back of that chair (disturbing Cocoa, who was asleep) and Joy then jumped at Molly, to spook and agitate her. The younger Joy gets her kicks agrivating Molly. Now, what you DON'T know is that when Joy was just a little kitten (when we first got her), Molly didn't want Joy here and literally tormented her every time she could. We could NOT go anywhere, without taking Joy with us. Joy was so small, that Brenda (at times) would put her in her purse as we would go into stores. Joy didn't make a sound (or a mess!) We had the fullsize Dodge Conversion van back then and if we left the van and left her in it, I had to open the door slowly, find Joy and hold her while we all got in the van. So now, Joy has grown up and has gotten bigger than Molly and figures that it's "Payback time". So, as I was typing this, Molly has made it to Karla's bedroom to go to sleep with her and Joy has completed her misson and is once again back on the computer desk by me and Cocoa is looking around like she wants to go out. Thing is, you never know what the 3 will do next. ;D

i'll start with the story of how Hamish became part of my life. back in the mid 90's i was living in a tiny little town in florida called Antioch, though my mailing address was plant city. well i was living on 9.5 acres with a 4 stall horse barn in the back yard (4 acre back yard) and with that barn and property I inherited a paid of barn cats. one morning about a week or so after i had gotten my horses moved there i was sitting on a chair in the barn aisle cleaning tack when i heard a ruckus in the feed room, i looked around the corner and there were sylvester (he looked identical to silvester from loony toons) and yum yum a siamese going at it hot and heavy. the previous owners told me they were both fixed, i knew that was a lie almost immediately because silvester had a pair of "boys" the size of golf balls. well, i got the 2 of the cats in the house, in seperate rooms and made appointments for them to be fixed when i got back from vacation in a few weeks i took them in. silvesters neutering went well but i got a call from Dr Kane that yum yum couldnt be spayed because she was pregnant and though it's not as safe as a non pregnany spay it could be done, well i didnt want to risk her life and i figured i could find homes for however many kittens came out. yum yum started nesting on my bed and i figured thats where the babies would be born, i was cool with that, it was a waterbed and any mess could be wiped off with a rag and sheets can go in the wash. a couple of nights later i was asleep after another long day when i was awakened by yum yum giving birth to kitten number 4 of the 7 that were eventually born, that kitten i woke up to being birthed was Hamish. i didnt mention where on the bed they were being born yet did i?  on my chest on my great kilt (6 sq yards of fine, and very expensive scottish wool. well i just laid there not wanting to move and it didnt take long after hamish for the rest to be born. i managed to slip out from under the covers and got yum yum a freshly laundered just for her fleece lined horse blanket that was too worn to use on a horse anymore. that was nearly 14 years ago (june 6th 1996) Hamish was the only one from that litter i kept, mom and dad got one (named that one Toulouse) and friends and co workers gave the rest of the kids homes. he turned into  the best cat ever. when he was born he was a tiny little ball of white fluff (siamese are born pure white, they get their "points" after several days) he was the most beautiful kitten ever, a little ball of white and brown fuzz.

Closest I can come to THAT one is that MY "LITTLE" dog thinks she's a Really "BIG" dog! She sits on the back of the couch and there are at least two people in my neighborhood that walk their REALLY BIG dogs and my dog start barking and growling like she wants to take them apart! These dogs could probably SWALLOW my dog!  ::) One bark from one of THEM would probably put mine into cardiac arrest! :o

I was pretty impressed with my little jack russell yesterday. My two dogs were outside in the yard with me. I was just watching them run around the yard. The Beagle mutt, Memphis, walked over to the compost pile, and spotted something move. He growled at it, but didn't pursue it any further. Just looked from a distance. My jack russell, who is tiny for his age, was about 30 feet away, and ran in a dead sprint towards it. Dug down into the compost so just his back legs are sticking out. I started yelling at him, since i figured he was just trying to get a nasty scrap of food or something. He rears out of the pile, and chucks a possum about 3 feet. This thing was easily 4-5 pounds heavier than he is. He's only 11 pounds. Its hissing, and he grabs it by the neck and shakes it. It was all over in about 10 seconds. It was pretty much the most bad ass thing i have ever seen. The possum was fairly messed up, so i finished it off with the .22.

I was worried about rabies and all that, but i called the vet, since he didn't eat it, and didn't get bit, he's going to be fine. I didn't expect that little dog to have so much power in him. He routinely wrestles with my 40 pound mutt and holds his own. I just hope he doesn't try that with some of the raccoons around here.

the only real worry with possums is if you have horses, possums are carriers of EPM   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equine_Protozoal_Myeloencephalitis

VERY nasty stuff

Whoa! Cool Dog! We had a dog once, named Patches (Heinz/57!)
She caught a possum in our yard and all she would do is irritate the possum by barkng at it, continuously. ::)

This happened a few years back.
About a week after I got my new truck I went out one afternoon and jumped in and drove to a restaurant about a mile and a half down the road.   I pulled into the parking lot and parked.
I got out of the truck and started to walk towards the entrance when I heard this pathetic meow from the bed of my truck.
I looked in the back and there was my cat!
I guess he was checking out the new truck bed and ended up going for a ride.
I was so thankful he stayed in the back of the open bed all the to the restaurant.

Thank goodness it was a short trip. The little sh*t scared the hell out of me!
From then on I always checked bed before I left the driveway...
My kitty died last year.  He was 16 or 17 and was a very good friend.

Thanks for that one, CycleRanger. Stories like that are not uncommon, but that doesn't mean we don't want to hear them. The first cat Brenda and I had, rode to where Brenda worked (underneath the truck of a coworker and Brenda got the cat (kitten actually).

We had a little dog named Kevin (got him from the Little Rock Humane Society back in '93) and that dog Loved to go riding in the car or van. I could not leave the house without him. Once, I opened the driver's door of our '80 Honda Accord, to roll the window up. Later, we got to wondering where Kevin was. We looked all over the place and the neighborhood. Could not find that dog anywhere. I was just coming back from checking out in the neighborhood (again) and Brenda was standing by the Honda and suddenly looked over and saw Kevin sitting IN the car looking at her! He thought, that when I went out and opened the car door, I was going somewhere and he wanted to go too. ::) ;D

We were just happy to see that he was there AND alright too! ;)

ok heres Bucky Katts story

in march of 2005 i moved down to florida temporarily to go to AMI. i was able to find a cheap apartment that would also accept pets in sanford, about 45 miles away. one weekend in early june i decided i wanted to keep busy when not at scool so i thought i'd try volunteer work at the local pound (turns out i cant go into one of those places and not have nightmares that night) i went in to look around and there was this skinny and badly beaten up siamese. he had part of one ear missing and a weepy eye caused by a pretty bad injury. he spotted me and started meowing and rubbing against the cages door. i asked if he was up for adoption and the lady told me though he was up for adoption nobody wanted to take him because of the injuries, the eye especially that would require daily care for the rest of his life. he was due to be euthanized that afternoon. well dumbass that i am i said there was no way this cat was going to get gassed and i took him from the shelter to the vet for his shots. that night i was doing some studying and transposing class notes into my laptop and every time i finished transposing a page i would crumple the paper up and toss it in the trash. bucky started taking each crumpled piece of paper out of the trash and bringing it to me and dropping it at my feet. so i tossed a piece of paper across the room and he ran over, picked it up and brought it over, jumped onto the couch with it and dropped it into my lap. nearly 5 years later i could see why his former family might have abandoned him. he chews through electrical cords and blinds control string and computer cables......the list goes on and on. i dont know if he has never been shocked, or he HAS been shocked and likes it. you cant touch his belly, hands, feet or tail or he will bite the #$%* out of you, no warning either, he just bites. all that said i love this little peckerhead as much as i do all my other babies.
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

my dog keiobi(like K.O.B.) an american staffordshire terrier that i took with me everywhere... i spent alot of time in the woods and allowed her to roam.... one day after a half hour of calling she came back reaking of a skunk so i washed her with vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap... worked wonders..... not even a week later different area a mile or two away same  stank upon return... same ice cold hosing off late in the night(luckily summer) two days later a completly different woods i think i see a squirrel so i get her to go after it.... and keep her at it not quite seeing what shes going after... only to realize she now has a gotee of porcipine quills...... i pulled most of the external ones right away but we ended up having to take her to the vets to get her sedated and have them removed.... i kept a closer eye on her after that...

My girlfriend's dog is a runner.  What I mean by that, is if she gets out, she just wants to run and won't come when you call her.  We worry that she'll get hit by a car.

Anyway, this dog is a really nice dog.  Just has a great personality, and is really happy to see us when we get home (as opposed to the other dog... who just wants to get fed).

Well, yesterday somehow she got out of the fenced in yard.  My girlfriend had to stay and try to get her in.  Eventually the phone rang and it was the drug store Walgreens.  The dog went in there to do some shopping I guess.   ::)

I keep giggling about it.  Thinking about how the automatic doors must have opened and she just decided to go in and say hi to everyone.  My girlfriend says everyone was giggling when she went in to get the dog.
