That tank has no drain hole? Wow ok.

Nope, no drain hole.  It would have been a lot easier to find the problem with the original tank if it did have a drain hole.   If I would have just been able to drain the crap out and see how bad everything was, I would have known right off that the tank was in bad shape.  Instead, I tried pumping it through my fuel pump and it clogged the filter on my fuel pump, then I finally dropped the tank to find out how rotten it is.  Now I have a new junkyard tank with no drain hole.  Being welded today.

Sweet car Hope - and only 400.00?  Heck you could through a couple grand in there and still be ahead.

It comes from having to work on the damn things. I felt a great measure LESS safe when I saw how cheap the rear end was put together, even more so when my mazda has a beefier backend.

Update:

Her divorce is final and I will be signing the title over to her for the Nissan Sentra soon.  She still drives the car hard and I still change the oil.  The Taurus has become my pet project.  I have done a lot of work to the Taurus, even teenager type stuff, like one day I found a wood grain panel for the dash in the junkyard, so I put that in my car.  I put a spoiler on the back.  Changed the front bumper to the 98/99 style instead of the 97 style.  I took the steel wheels and hubcaps off and put the manufacturer's alloys on.  All junkyard finds and steals (good prices) for all my body parts.  I traded services for the tint (did a website for the tint.)  (The Taurus has a LOT of glass!)  I really like the Taurus.  I just rolled 160,000 miles on my $400 car.

I believe in the end, things worked out for the best.  My sister has reliable transportation and I do, too.  The Taurus has made me love big cars.  I may never go back to something as small as the Nissan Sentra ever again.

Bye bye, Sentra.  We have moved on to bigger, greener pastures...  but I will still change your oil.

Lookin' good, Hope!  I'm still lovin' my Taurus as well!  I've got a red 2000 SE with the Duratec 24V engine.  It drives like a dream, and it has been very reliable, too.

Enjoy!

Damn.  I thought my naturally aspirated 2000 24V with 202 HP (stock) was pretty good.  I wonder if I added 2 turbos....

Update:

Guess who just won March's Taurus Club Car of the Month???

I'm still driving the Taurus.  About to hit 168K on my $400 car.  Man, this Taurus is so much more fun than the Sentra I gave my sister.  Not regretting that I gave the Sentra up.

Girl, you rock! Don't be too hard on your sister for a "lack of concern", probably 2/3s of the folks on the road don't take "proper care" of their car, most folks just drive until something happens, then take it to the shop and ask "can you fix it?". Wouldn't hurt to pass your knowledge and skill on to her kids, then they can change her oil. Congrats on Car of the Month!!!

Wow, I just went and checked out your car!  I'm really impressed.  Lots of really cool, subtle, stock-looking mods that truly enhance the vehicle -- not just dumb mods for the sake of mods.

Great work!

Sweet deal, I had 3 tauri. that's plural for tauruses right? They were company cars, one was a week from getting new tires but I hit heavy rain and hydroplaned it into a forest backwards. It protected me well. There were diamonds in the windows from smacking a chain link fence. I was trying to turn it back around like the nascar boys but ran out of real estate. After I crawled back out of the ravine I landed in I was glad to be sliding backwards, I wouldn't have wanted to see where I was going. For an instant I was weightless, all the stuf on the console floated in the air.
With the kind of maintainance you are doing it should be a great car. Best wishes for your sister too.

HEYY I just found my way into this thread.. See my old friend Eldar has not changed much... wondered where he was..
.. did not think he could stay away.... ;)

I have a 89 i think Taurus, last drove it spring last year.. ran the absolute piss outa it, corner it harder than I do on bikes..

My favorite Taurus story. I know a guy with a built Kawi 1000, 6 pot calipers, bore kit, carbs, set up to handle a bit better..
..
We had been for a couple beers, both went home on a road I an VERY familiar with. Not saying he was going full out but close too it.. When going thru one of the corners at a pretty good lean angle.. imagine his surprise to see me on his tail.. :o ;D.. I was waiting for that last corner, and made sure I would get close to him.. He was pretty surprised.. I said hey I live near this road and we always ran it hard.. ;)

Hope.. nice car you did a great job on it..

hey hope, was beginning to wonder where you were at  ;D

I have been busy with school.  I am hoping to graduate in May.  When I first got this car and realized I was going to keep it, my main goal was for it to get me through school.  Well, as you can see, I am kind of partial to the car, so it looks like I'll be keeping it.  I like stock looking mods.  Plus they're easy to find in the junkyard, not to mention cheap.  When you keep it mostly stock, it doesn't look like a 16 year old attacked it.

No sense in getting a car note just because I have a degree if I can keep this one running!

i just took a look at the taurus page Hope and i have to say thats a great looking job you've done on that car. want to come do some work on the saturn wagon for me?  :D

I don't know anything about Saturns!

Congrats, Hope!!!  I didn't even know you were active over there.  I would have voted for you on principle.

edbikerii, check out what I said on the 1st page of this current thread:

Wonder where I've been?  I've been at the Taurus owner's club asking them questions about Ford Taurus's and how to repair them...

BTW - for folks that aren't in the south, we had a beautiful riding day today in the Baton Rouge area...  I would have been out there myself if I didn't have an ear infection.  (doubt the wind would have made the ear infection any better.)

Sorry it's been so long since I've dropped in!  I'll try to get over here more often.  Thanks for all your compliments, guys.  Ya'll encouraged me to get the car and make it my own when I gave up the Sentra to my sister.

I think someone here said that I should just give it (the Sentra) to my sister if I could never forgive her for tearing it up.  They were right.  No car is worth having hard feelings over.

BTW - I encouraged her to get a maintenance savings card.  She paid an up front fee for 6 oil changes, tire rotations, etc, and then nothing is out of pocket.  She has the car serviced regularly now.  I found a manual for the car in the junkyard I need to give her.  She said it didn't have a manual in it.  Plus, she has a boyfriend who works at an auto body shop and the Sentra is getting a new paint job.  So, it looks like things will work out for the best!
