550 k0 float valve assys.
« on: March 04, 2010, 08:14:21 PM »
I rebuilt my carburetors using the original hard parts but replaced all the o rings. I've had nagging carburetion issues and have traced the problem to excessive fuel in the bowls. I used the clear hose attached to the bowl drain method, and discovered that the float valves aren't shutting the fuel off, even when closed. This lets just enough fuel get into the intakes, to cause hard starting and plug fouling, resulting in an inability to make proper adjustments of the carbs. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that I need to replace the float valves. My question is, what aftermarket brand do you guys recommend as QUALITY replacements? I'd love to buy the Honda ones, but they're 100.00 for 4. Thanks in advance.

The clear tube method proves that the fuel level in the bowls is high, but doesn't necessarily mean you need new float valves....

I've had good luck with the Partsnmore.com float valves.  They are $4 apiece.

Wow! At that price, it's hardly worth the time to check the old valves!

The only catch with Partsnmore.com is that they have a $35 minimum order.  The good news though is that shipping is only $5 and they have a bunch more reasonably priced maintenance items.
